Bottle. Frothy white excellent mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Heavy malty and light hoppy aroma. Cramellic notes. Moderate sweet and light bitter flavor. Average slightly perfumed finish. Oily palate. A little boring beer but ok.

Bottled. Surprisingly enough amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is earth, slight caramel and some fruits in aroma. Flavour is sweet fruits, metal, yeast and some caramel malts. Some slight bittering hops in finish.

Golden amber, sweet sprity raisins nose , sweet early spicy raisins, with caramaly hops. lots of omph in fouth feel and flavour.

Bottle says 25.04.07. Pours deep red/gold into a tulip. Significant medium head slowly recedes with slight lacing. Lemon aromas. Crisp with sweet malt and tart lemon battling it out. Fairly abrupt bitter hop finish.

Dry and sour atop a sweet backbone in a way that seems out of synch. Cloudy copper, off-white head that sticks around. Malty and musty aroma with notes of fruit, caramel. Flavor is sweet to start, but turns slightly bitter and finishes sour. The mustiness shows up in the finish, too. Medium body and slightly sticky texture. Moderate carbonation. The bitter and sour seem at odds with each other and too overpowering for caramel sweetness. Still, the disparity became less pronounced as the beer warmed.

Pour is a cloudy tan with a small white head. Aroma is a bit earthy and toffee. Flavor is almost like a dry wine. Very dark fruit with the right amount of malts used. Not alot of mustyness going on here unlike its blond brother but well worth it. Very tasty and a pleasure for all the sences.

(Bottle 33 cl) Very beautiful amber coloured beer. No real sediment, but tiny bits of floating impurities. Light brown and quite stable head. Very malty with distinct notes of caramel. Sweetness balanced well by the hops. The potent alcohol is well hidden. 021103

Bottle from Carrefour, Calais Won the Medaille d’Or Paris 2004 according to the sticker label on the bottle. Reddish amber colour with a caramel/white head. Lots of malt on the nose and some kind or freshly washed green vegetable? Lots of caramel malt in the flavour and the sweetness is balanced by the relatively astringent hop finish. Excellent balance, will buy again when I go to France next week.

Medium amber in color, with medium white lacing - musty, damp, cellared aroma, with touches of yeast and mild sweetness - medium bodied, with flavors of honey and fruits such as strawberries and cherries - dry sherry-like character - finish is a little thin, but has a decent maltiness to it - a highly under-rated biere de garde, and not a bad price, either.
