The ancient legends that abound about the Russian Imperial Stouts of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

I sniffed out the best beers in the airport. Bottle at LA Airport, 23rd November 17. Pours black and slick. Aroma is roasty malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is rich bitter coffee and chocolate, roasted, slite smoke. Delicious, although rushed as I had the final call and had to run.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black body with a small beige head. Strong and lovely aroma of dark malt and roasted coffee. Flavor is medium sweet, dark, medium roasted malt, coffee and pleasant bitterness. Full bodied and long lasting smooth, dark roasted malty aftertaste. Very nice.

Bottle, 355 at Carnitas North Park, San Diego. Pours dark brown, medium beige head. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel, some dark fruit, alcohol, sweet with rough boozy and bitter finish. Quite unpleasant. Medium bodied. Something went wrong here, wonder if it’s the bottle.

Bottle in trade from solidfunk, thanks for the opportunity! Solid black with a good sized tan head that persists. Roasty chocolate with a bit of earth and licorice and just a touch of dark fruit. Pretty tasty stout.
