Bottle from Geers. Pours hazy red with a lasting, small, frothy, pinkish head. Aroma of redcurrant, unripe red apple, sour cherry, sour milk, yoghurt. Taste has sour red apple, redcurrant, lactic-yoghurty profile, bi herbal & wheaty. Tart finish, lots of red fruit, sweet jam, bit of an infected feel. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Not quite on point.

Bottle from Colruyt. Hazy reddish/brown colour, beige foam. Nose of red fruit along with woody notes. Taste is medium sour, some fruity hints, well balanced. Very refreshing. I like this!

Gott.

Fruit beer by Minne (formerly Bastogne) apparently intended as a red Berliner Weisse variant, bottle from De Caigny. Very thick and foamy, pale yellowish beige, creamy, irregularly lacing, large-bubbled head, warm vermillion red robe with deep amber hue, hazy. Interesting but not very Berliner Weisse-like nose: cranberry sauce, lemon candy, red apple, candyfloss, grenadine even, red raspberries, soaking wet peanuts. Sweet and sourish onset, quite distinctive red fruitiness of Jonagold apple, cherry and cranberry but fragmented by very sharp, painfully numbing, very ‘obtrusive’ carbonation; slick caramelly malt body, sweet with vague nutty edges, very subtle herbal hop touch in the background while the red fruit effects linger, actually adding much more sweetness than sourness – in fact, the expected lactic sourness remains so subtle that I would never have identified this as a Berliner Weisse at all… Weirdly sweet, lacking in sourness but in any case very ‘different’ and original, unexpectedly good really, but considering earlier ratings, I am left wondering if the recipe has been tinkered with meanwhile. Complete failure in terms of style if you ask me, but definitely a unique and enjoyable beer regardless of that.
