This Oak Aged is copper brown in colour and its aroma is a mixture of muscatel aromas and Quadrupel. In addition to sweet honey, flowery meadows with almond and caramel, we also distinguish the aroma of muscatel wine and, of course, that of oak. This Quadrupel too has been lagered in barriques, most of which are burned on the inside. Out of all batches released so far, this batch has the smokiest and fullest flavour. The influence of Oloroso and Brandy barrels also has a distinct side-effect. Ultimately, the complex flavour is full, smooth and balanced. The aftertaste is that of wood tannins, smoke, almonds, dates and caramel, the latter giving this batch a bitter-sweet touch.

375 bottle from my cellar. Clear brown color. Hardly any head, but still enough carbonation. Aroma’s: the typical fruitcandies of LTQ, but also some yeast, wood, tannines. Retronasal it’s sweetish, vinous, a bit port, wood, tannines. Flavor is moderate to full sweet. Alcohol is warming. Medium to full bodied. Flavor lingers, a bit woody. Actually one of the better BA batches that I’ve had..

Bottle at home. Two year old. Pours a clear mahogany colour with nearly no head. Complex and sweet aroma of brown sugar, nuts, alcohol oak, port, and lots of caramel. Sweet and malty is also the flavour with more caramel, alcohol, oak and wine-like undertones. Has a silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a very light bitterness. A rich and sweet ale. A desert alone.

Bottle, 12:22 (from koht). Pours brown with beige head. The head stays for a second. Aroma is sweet, fresh fruits, apples, malt, plums, mild cognac. Flavor is sweet, raisins, fruits, sugar, cognac, malt, caramel, alcohol. Overall: very nice beer, but a bit underwhelming for a BA La Trappe quad.

Capped and caged 375 from Cave a Bulles. Pours rather Amber with no head. Aroma of oxidized sherry, and perhaps Brandy. A little darkish fruit. Med + body. Flavor is rather sherry/brandy with a little sweet darkish fruit. It’s very smooth, heat is detectable. It’s pretty dang wonderful.
