Arrived in 2010 with his sister Nkoyi Blonde, the one the Kinshasa people affectionately called Nkoyi Ya Mwasi, is a light dark beer with a bitterness less felt than our other dark beers. Today it symbolizes the Congolese in its ethnic and traditional diversity and allows everyone to identify with it.

Bottle from tderoeck @ Belgian Autumn Gathering 2014. Dark brown colour, almost no head. Sweet aroma of caramel and liquorice. Thin and watery. Sweet. Not the best beer but ok for an African beer.

Thank you tderoeck! 650? ml. bottle sampled @ “The Tasting formerly known as Mons RBBAG I (2014)”. Clear amber. Nose is not bad at all, sweet caramel, brown sugar, cereal,… Taste is oily watery brown sugar, light herbs, caramel, candy sugar, bland, herbs, very, very watery. Way too bland & watery but still quite good for an African beer. This must be a blessing of sorts for a lover of specialty beer in Congo.

Clear reddish brown colour, beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, hint of red fruits. Sweet malty flavour, caramel. Sweet finish, caramel, toast. Quite a nicely drinkable beer from a country of which I didn’t know that they made this kind of beers.
(From 60(?)cL can @ the ’tick countries & enjoy some good beers’ tasting. Thanks for sharing, Tim!)

6/X/14 - 65(?)cl bottle @ home - BB: 18/VII/14 (2014-1183) Thanks to Akke and Jelle for the bottle!

Clear red brown beer, small irregular beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, sweet, bit nutty, toasted almonds, sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: caramel, bit sweet, chocolate, sourish touch, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: chocolate, pretty hoppy, some dried fruits, hint of mocha. Surprisingly acceptable for an African beer, very happy to see something else than the ever boring pale later!

65cl bottle, no date. Found in a Congolese shop in Brussels.
Dark brown in the glass, malty-grainy and malty-sweetish nose. The beer starts dry and malty. Nearly nothing of the malty sweetness from the nose. Hints of sourness which makes it very easy to drink. The mainpart is quite aroma-full for what I’ve expected from the Congo. Malty-dry, slightly sweet with hints of sourness. A bit warming in the aftertaste, not very bitter, a bit malty-dry in the end.
Nice beer for coming from the Congo! --> 10/12/9/10
