Big flavor, intense pine and citrus aromas dominate this brew. We keep the malt profile clean in this Imperial IPA to let the love lights shine on the fine NW hops.

Bomber. Curious Hop, Otley. Gold, with a light haze. Film of sticky, white head. Sticky, and resinous. Peach skin, and peach stone. Well balanced grainy malts. Taste is sticky sweet. Turns peachy, stony, resinous bitter. Silky, rich, juicy palate. Finishes long, oily, zesty bitter. Big beer. Lovely.

On Tap at the River Room, Whole Foods, Boise Hazy orange with a trace white head and lacing. Big obvious tangerine aroma. Not so much on te flavor. Quite bitter, moderate resinous citrusy hop notes. Smooth and soft palate.

Pours out an orange gold with big, airy head. Musty malt aroma, little hops to be found. Taste brings some bitterness, not as much as you’d expect from a big beer. Normal IPA bitter finish.

West Coast imperial IPA with irregular, creamy, yellowish white head, lacing a bit and retaining quite well; deep golden blonde colour with orangey hue (’old gold’) and good fizz. Aroma hoppy and fruity, but there is a kind of burnt rubber smell in it too; I assume the bottle I am tasting, has been standing in the store for too long, losing a lot of its hops bouquet . Apart from this initially somewhat disturbing, but fortunately completely receding smell, I get hints of grapefruit peel, caramel, hemp seed, gin, nettles and other weeds, pine needles, rainwater, bitter honey and bitter herbs (wormwood), marmelade, white pepper, sweat, roasted pine nuts, biscuit; when warming up, a delicious, fragile strawberry sweetness creeps up from the glass as well. Heck, the aroma seems to get better and better after giving it some time... Taste begins with a full, copious, exotic fruitiness, pineapple, some banana perhaps, mandarin, papaja, lightly sourish starfruit touch, minerally, only very faintly salty (luckily!); relatively soft carbo, smooth and supple, bit oily mouthfeel, spicy notes tingling on the tongue and paving the way for a hoppy finale, resinous, piney, subduedly citrussy, floral and bittering, but not as ’agressive’ as I had expected, still leaving room for ’juicy’ maltiness to come through; a faint hint of warming, gin-like alcohol is there, but subtle and very well hidden. Doubtlessly a well-accomplished example of its style, but this bottle is a bit too old and surely has lost a lot of its hoppy seductiveness through time. Still, very enjoyable, balanced, elegant and recommended if you are into big IPAs. I will not take the DMTS smell into account in this rating, as it manages to withdraw easily.
