We released our first ever Double IPA back in 2010 and we’re rounding off the decade with another one.

Swamp Thang combines the super-dank Strata hop from Oregon with Gigayeast’s Vermont Ale yeast strain to deliver funky, pungent aromas and intense hop flavours.

Vermont Ale yeast is said to be indispensable when it comes to hazy IPAs, so we felt it was only right that we pay homage to the legendary misty marsh dwelling Swamp Thang.

Hop-driven and deep gold in colour, this brew delivers the strong dank and piney aromas typical of Strata and Columbus hops, while the five-malt blend provides a deceptively easy-drinking medium body that allows the hop bitterness to come through on the finish.

Pot at Bluebonnet pours a dark orange with some sudsy white head. Nose has grapefruit, malt, pine, soap. Flavor has big pith, big soap, malt, toffee. Finishes full bodied, bitter.

From a 640ml bottle on 22/12//2019 (shared with Butz). Pours a clear deep golden with a smallish head. Has a reasonably strong herbal piney hop aroma. It's not a typical double flavour wise - it's really grassy and herbal, with some caramel malt, lemon and Vietnamese mint. Pine and resin hold sawyn hop wise. Dank yes, with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel, and moderate carbonation. The Swamp Thang is an odd beast - it works on some levels but not others. Worth a try, but doesn't quite bring it home for mine.

Bottle. Vermont ale yeast or no, it's clear amber with a white head that fades to a 1/2cm. Aroma of kumquat, stinky mango skin, some other tropical fruit (passionfruit, guava). More brooding tropical notes than dope. Fairly full body, lowish carbonation. Quite sweet with some bread crust under loads of tropical fruit. Bitterness takes a little while to cut through but is strong and a bit resinous and peppery. Very good, just a tad sweet for me.
