This beer is aged on new Missouri oak. The wood has a medium toast, which helps to caramelize the sugars in the oak and adds a nutty character to the beer as it soaks into the wood. Leave the corkscrew in the kitchen drawer and pop open a beer that will reward you with more flavors than most wines can dream of.

2008 Bottle, drank in early 2010. Pours a light brown with ruby-red hues and a slight, white head. Sweet aroma of light malts, fruits, dark candies and some hard alcohol. Quite sweet flavor, too, with caramel, brown sugar, ripe, dark fruits like cherries and grapes. Medium to full in body with soft carbonation and mild warmth. Finishes sweet and malty with some alcohol. Very good overall.

Bottle thanks to Travlr: Poured a muddy brown with some reddish tips, head was light and beige. Aroma was woodsy, alcohol, vanilla, and malt. Taste was very whiskey and oak with a roasted malt and nut mix. There was a lot going on in the finish, but in the end whiskey won that war as well.

2008 bottle, 75 cl, courtesy of Greg at Churchkey. Shared with SHIG in Aviano, Italy, probably the first Schlafly beer to appear in Italy. Chestnut brown color, large beige head, great lacing. Aroma is bourbon, smoke, vanilla, caramel and wood. Taste is very malty, lots of whisky. Good complexity and character.

2012-05-02, bottle from Chevy Chase, Washington DC, in 2009, 4+ years old, 8-4-8-4-16=40
Hazy amber color, with small head. Strong oak vanilla aroma and malt. Sweet malt and caramel flavor, a bit buttery, with oak vanilla character; good bitterness, with a nutty edge, and a warming alcohol finish. It shows just minimal signs of age.

2010-04-23, tasting at Papsø, vintage 2006, 3+ years old, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Hazy amber color; generous creamy head. Creamy aroma, vanilla, sweet caramel and fudge, with very light sourness; chaotic. Quite strong body, sweet toffee and fudge flavor, with vanilla oak; the final is a bit drier. Confused, obvious, unimpressive.
