It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

Draft at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland. An unclear amber beer with a thin light brown beer. The aroma is sweet malty malty and fruity and hoppy aroma. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy leading to a dry very bitter finish with notes of grass and grapefruit.

Splendid aroma of alcolhol, fruit, floral hop, and malt. The overall effect is of fermenting fruit. Beautiful orange tinged amber color. White head that didn’t last. Medium body, very light carbonation. A bit chewy. The alcohol is definitely present, some toffee, stone fruit (something like brandied fruit with the alcohol) sweetness. The main and saving feature is that each sip provides a burst of fruit. The finish is fairly dry, and there does seem to be some of that advertised smokey undertone. There is even enough bitter to overcome the residual sweetness.

Luminescent bright amber appearance. Chewy, earthy...and big. The usual brown sugars, earthy hops and chewy caramels. Decently made, archetypal barley wine. Damnit, I waited 15 years for this!

Bottle pours a slightly hazy amber with a nice white creamy head. Spotty lacing. Sweet caramel nutty brown sugar aroma. Some alcohol notes as well. Flavor is nutty, smooth sweet, and the ABV is apparent. Plenty of bitter piney hops. Lingering bitter bite. Thanks Jordan

Bottle: Pours a clear orange/amber with a smaller white head that disapated quickly. Damn near bronze, just like the description! Fruity, hoppy aroma with hints of alcohol. Some citrus. Taste is citrus hops with fruits, caramel, and some malt presence. Smooth, warming finish. Quite good. Thanks to Jordan for sharing.

12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 1998 vintage. Poured a clear copper color with an off white head. The aroma was sweet and a bit fruity. Smells like a Barleywine. This beer has a nice Barleywine flavor too with a dark fruitiness, caramel malts and a hint of pine hops. The flavor seems to end with a bit of a woody character.

Draft: Gorgeous sparkling amber color. Alcohol nose. Malt alcohol taste. Rough around the edges, needs to mellow.
