500ml bottle from Bier Huis. Gluten Free. Black brown colour, beige foam head and aroma of roast malt, ashy, chocolate, coffee. Taste is roasted malt, smokey, liquorice, with chocolate & coffee, and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, roasty bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Cask-conditioned at the Golden Bowl (JDW), York 13/9/2023. Almost black in colour and opaque, with a tight, beige, head. Plain chocolate, toasty malts, liquorice, before a toasty finish. Pleasant drinking.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford Pours a very dark reddish brown with a tight cream head and good lacing. Plenty of vanilla in the nose. Taste is of liquorice and dark fruits, with some coffee hints and a creamy texture. So far so good, but it is let down by the finish with is of disgusting stale fag-ash. Nice beer – until the end !

Cask @ Sowerby Taps, Sowerby Bridge. Black with a thick frothy off-white head. Has a fairly mild roasted malt aroma and taste making it a more crisp tasting ale than anything else.

very dark brown color, creamy white head. Salty nose with molasses, licorice, dark fruit, dark chocolate and treacle. Wow, a real eye opener for the nose. The mouth shows subtle depth of dark fruit, bakers chocolate and molasses. Medium light body. Nose promised more than the beer delivered but overall a fantastic stout
