Draught jar at Horse Brass. Poured black with brown head. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Full body with malt, chocolate and coffee, all wonderfully balanced. Lasting malt finish. Twenty minutes after I finished the pint I was still enjoying it. Definitely worth seeking out.

Cask at the Horse Brass. Aroma of chocolate and some subtle things like roasted malt, grain, and something like anise. Opaque dark brown color with a darker than tan head. Creamy smooth, and smooth cask carbonation. Medium bodied. That smooth roasted malt found in superior stouts. Hint of tar, and once again something like anise. There’s bitter along the edges of the tongue. Somehow the unusual flavors tie together well. It’s up with the best. Or should be.

On tap at Horse Brass Pub, Portland. Black, bubbly tan head. Very liquorcey stout. Smokey liquorce aroma. Bit sour, bit off actually, bit of raisin. Not my style of stout, but pretty good flavours that I could appreciate.

Rather dark brown. Nice nutty, chocolatey, oaty aroma with a hint of coffee. Flavour is gentle, complex with oats, light chocolate and coffee, nuts, earth. Good stuff.

A good balance between hops and malt with bitter chocolate predominating and hints of BBQ sauce at the end.
