Joining forces with our friends at Maui Brewing Company, we wanted a beer well-suited for our similar climates. The name, meaning “Hi friend,” represents the camaraderie between our two award winning breweries. We added premium Koshihikari rice for its clean, delicate flavors, and a ton of Galaxy hops to give the beer bright citrus notes of passion fruit and guava. We present to you a unique and drinkable pale ale reminiscent of paradise.

Hazy yellow from a pounder can. Sweet hops perfume. Very small scummy head. Very good co2 on the uptake. This makes it a little more refreshing than I thought it would be. Yes, each slug is full of bubbly co2, nice. In the background I get this real bitter astringent thang brewing and growing. In the middle it gets kind of rude and almost nasty-masty. Difficult rude bitter hop astringent bite in there. Finish is just that, difficult medicine. Well, at least it started off pretty good.

Foggy gold, good white head. Aroma: honey, candied sugar, citrus fruit, some green hop. Light body. Taste: light sweet, clean, malty and hoppy. Green hoppy ending. Light to medium bitterness. Quite good.

Draft. A hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, straw, citrus fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, citrus fruits, malt, and straw, leading to a bitter finish.

16 oz can purchased as a single at Tipsys in Mission, Kansas. Canned on 03/07/19 stamped on bottom of can. The pour is slightly cloudy yellow golden with a foamy white head that falls quickly. The aroma is rice cereal grain, soft apricot fruit and a bit of floral. The palate is medium bodied, soft fine carbonation and lingering rice and floral finish. Clean, though wish I would have had this fresher.

American style pale ale by this famous and old school American craft brewery, one of the founding fathers of today’s international craft beer culture, since 1995; apparently a collab with Hawaiian Maui brewery, which explains the name. From tap at Bar Beenhouwer, Ghent. Egg-white, mousy, opening head, hazy golden-straw blonde robe. Aroma of old dry lemon peel, herb cheese, ‘box tree’, old dry cookies, moist white pepper, freshly cut onions. Dryishly fruity onset, clean, hint of green banana and unripe peach, medium carb with light minerally effects, slick and lean mouthfeel; pale malt sweetishness with a thin bready edge, quickly soaked in zesty hoppiness, old dry lemon peel and white pepper effects, tad grapefruity but a little bit cheesy and old socks-like as well (old hops effect), with a nevertheless refreshing, citric bitterness stretching out over the back of the tongue. Has an unexpected ‘old hops’ aspect to it, but generally speaking this is a fine old-fashioned APA in spite of its tropical and NEIPA intentions; I wish there were still more like these around to balance out that whole juicy/hazy craze in Anglo-Saxon pale ales.

1/XI/19 - on tap @ Bar Beenhouwer, the weekend without kids - (2019-1791) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Clear blond to orange beer, small creamy white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: nice and fruity, some oranges, bit malty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter start, malty, grains, a bit oxidized, rather soapy, bit fruity. Aftertaste: some citrus, nice and bitter, bit grassy, more of that soap, bit spicy and dry in the finish. Probably not very fresh anymore...
