High-gravity golden ale with peaches and milk sugar

A classic from our storied 2007 Imperial Beer Series, Peaches and Cream is a real Joe Short original, showcasing his desire to push the boundaries of what beer could be in a time when “dessert beers” weren’t actually a thing. There is a wacky amount of fresh peach and milk sugar in this brew, and boy howdy does it taste like dessert in a glass. You’ll be pleased as a peach with this treat.

Huge thanks to tpd975 for bringing another cool Shorts brew to the weekly tasting. Pours hazy orange brown with full tan head. The aroma is sugar sweet tarts and a bit of vague fruitiness that may be leaning in the direction of peach if I allow my imagination to wonder. The taste is thick and sweet bringing in notes of thick rich malts and peaches. It then moves into bigger maltier sweet notes and resilient peachiness. The peaches really come through nicely but I don’t pick up on the cream part of this brew. Darn tasty anyway.

courtesy of tpd975. Pours orange with white head. Aroma is loaded with peach with a distinct fresh fruit nose. Taste, lots of peach with a warming alcohol and a nice sugary mouthfeel. Creamy palate. Not the typical beer, easy to drink but alcohol is noticeable though not taking away anything from the peach.

Bottle, 75cl. It pours a hazy amber-orange body under a small, creamy beige head. Peachy, syrupy nose with blue plums, white sugar and some stocky maltyness. Mostly sweet and fruity flavor, almost like the syrup from canned peaches, with some beef-stock, peaches, bitter, piney hops and a touch of something I struggle to pin. Thinking milkyness, but I fear that’s just because the label says lactose. Full-bodied and sticky, slightly warming. Lasting sweet and a bit bitter finish. Well, a half pint is good, but a bottle on my own would probably be too much. Really nice though, and a damn good idea. (090213)

Tasting at Papsoe
Hazy amber color; creamy head. Strong peach aroma, nice even if not expected in a beer. Sweet malty flavor, fruity, luckily the bitternss is not too aggressive to clash with the fruits. Can be pleasant, if you accept the fruit juice.

75 cL bottle. Pours dark orange to light brown and with a small off-white head. Light peachy and mild milky aroma. Citric and peachy flavoured with a mild sweetness and slight citric note. Smooth hoppy peach fruity and sweet into the finish. Nice one.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet with extremely strong notes of peaches, and so is the flavor, the sweetness carries all the way to the finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazy amber golden with floating impurities and a dense and stable beige head that leaves some lacework. Distinctly sweet peach aroma. Quite full-bodied with plenty of fruit - peaches in particular - and a surprisingly bitter finish. Quite interesting really! 311008

Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Complex and comprehensive ale which was a real pleasure to drink. Hazy, dark orange body supported by a thin, creamy head. Fruity smell containing watermelon and peaches with alcohol beneath. Sappy, bitter fruits in flavour leading to a lingering, hop bitter ending still with a warming touch alcohol. Soft palate, but full bodied and very well balanced (shared with Skinnyviking, 10.09.2008)
