Kroger 29 bottle. Clear brown with a small beige head. Sweet malty aroma, artificial sweeteners for sure, metal. Flavor is brown grass, lints of chocolate or coffee, hint of bourbon (but it's almost extract-like). It's not bad, but it sure isn't good.

Stubby bottle from JR's. This stuff is listed as a schwartz but its not. It may be a dark lager but no way a black lager. Yes there is a taste of JB in there but its not overwhelming. Taste is milder dark lager with hints of whiskey. In the glass its not a black beer either, it's more of a lighter rootbeer color, maybe even cream soda to the eye. Although it says its 7%, you may not know it, its quite civilized for this alky level. Quiet good carbonation on this one, maybe that helps hide the alky content and I like that. Yes, like many of the bud brews, this stuff is not bad, I was thinking it would be over the top with the beam, but this bottle was OK, quite enjoyable. And as an afterthought, the alky content make its quite relaxing thankyou.

Bottle from Hannaford caught my eye, what the hell I'll try it. Dark brown with garnet at the edges and a light tan head that persists. Light toasty bready light hints of chocolate and some light vanilla and oak tannin. Not horrible but could use some more body.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman's Appleton, 11/27/19. Dark copper, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of raisin, butter, caramel. Taste is raisin, cola, caramel. Medium bodied, a bit overly sweet, high carb. Altogether pretty good for Bud.

I don't know where the reserve part of the name comes from as I don't see it mentioned anywhere on the label. A little strong for schwarzbier. The Aromas are dark malt, toast and a little funk. Flavors are sweet up front with a little bitter dark malt toast and coffee. Aggressive carbonation and slightly thin body. Passable I guess.

Pours cola brown into a shaker. White head quickly fizzles to pool surface. Dark caramel and oak aromas. Sweet dark caramel, raisin bread and mild oak front to back. Lasting sweet hint-o-bourbon finish. Becomes cloying over time.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours clear dark amber/brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasty/toasty/bready malt. Not getting much of anything else. Med body. Flavor is very roasty/toasty. Not dry. Definite bourbon flavor which gains strength with time. Not very bitter. Too sweet to match my concept of a Schwarzbier. Drinkable. Likely decent BBQ/wings wash.

Stubby bottle with a twist-off cap. Pours a clear dark mahogany color with a fizzy beige head and fair retention. Very limited lacing. Dark malt aroma. Flavor of charred malts with a warming alcohol finish with a little bourbon syrup taste. The 7.1% ABV is somewhat hidden, but a little strong for my liking. Definitely a sipper. Medium body. Higher than expected carbonation for the style. Remove the Jim Beam and this would be really good.

Sweet, with a toffee and brown sugar middle coupled with butter, saccharine, and a little oaky bitterness. Not good, but better than I expected. Tastes nothing like a real schwarzbier, though.
