Special edition of Rebelle Tripel hopped with Hüll Melon, one of those hop varieties developed in Europe in recent years with an American profile (this one having been derived from Cascade in 2012). Very thick and frothy, eggshell-white, cobweb lacing, stable head on a misty orangey peach blonde beer, turning cloudy with sediment. Aroma of indeed honeydew as expected from Hüll Melon, but marred by accents of rancid butter and band aid, next to impressions of ripe peach, banana, old cheese, cooked pear and white bread dough. Fruity onset, peach, banana, pineapple, sweetish with sharp and very minerally carbonation; sweet-bready maltiness with honeyish residual sugar, a tad sticky even, leading to a finish that remains rather sweet, with the Cantaloupe-like aspect of the Hüll Melon accentuating the sweetness but bringing insufficient bitterness. The technical errors return retronasally, and the delicate Hüll Melon is not able to save the day, alas. Poor tripel trying to be hip by using a fancy hop variety – I think the brewery would better get the basic beer right first before venturing into this kind of embellishments.

11/VII/20 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent), shared @ home, BB: 18/V/21 (2020-632)
SLOW GUSHER ALERT!
Clear orange beer, big creamy bit irregular white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very funky, bit dirty, infected, brett notes, weird, not good! MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, dirty, infected, yeasty, some bubble gum. Aftertaste: hint of diacetyl, but not really very obvious, bit sweet, floral, very funky, ripe melon, overripe melon even.
