Dark red-brown colour. A firm creamy and cream-coloured head. The smell of roasted malt, caramel and the sweet fruitiness of the alcohol give this beer the perfect aroma. Flavour: Caramel, sweet fruitiness and a pleasant bitterness are the predominant flavours. The aftertaste reveals a pinch of toffee and date.

Hazy brown with medium off white head. Sweet malty aroma with raisin and chocolate. Sweet flavor with moist cellar, roasted malt and some liquerice in the end. Well balanced.

A clear dark brown with ruby hues, with a thick light moka head, and floaties. A light sweet aroma of dates, oranges, ginger, and candy sugar. In mouth, a lightish sweet candy sugar, wit light ginger and tangerines, light coriander, and warming alcohol. Medium bodied, light for the style. Not bad. Bieropholie import.

End-of-scale dark amber ale with yellow-brown, creamy head. Very fruity, grapey nose, some alcohol and a lot of fusels. Fusels again, as well as sweet licorice in the taste. Fruity, but in a less natural sense of the word. Vinous in the first instant, again in the aftertaste. Warming up, some bitterish roasted/ near-coffee-like notes. Quite well bodied, obvious alcohol (it IS Huyghe), creamy texture. Nowhere bad, but somehow, one would be tempted to expect a little more complexity...

Pour is a cloudy brown with a nice tan head. Aroma is a very nice wine almost perfumey smell. Flavor is figs, dark cherries and some caramel. Flavor loses something after awhile or this would have got a better score. Still very tasty and leaves you guessing as to what they used to brew this. Prob not the best GC but something to get you an idea of what they can be. Cork Date 2001.

Bottled (BBE 11/2007)
Hazy nut brown color, small tanned head. Strong aroma of rye porridge and berries. Medium-bodied, malty. Berries and roast. Quite carbonated. A bit sugary in the finish with alcoholic bitterness. Reasonably drinkable but quite boring belgian brown ale.

(Bottle 33 cl) Dark amber with a huge head. Very unclear - almost muddy appearance. Some spiciness - perhaps even coriander for Joris’ sake? But also a lovely malty feel, some toffee and caramel with a balancing bitterness in the finish. Nice indeed. 020198

Deep reddish-brown body, thin buff head. Banana, toast, caramel, and alcohol dominated the aroma. Tart, fruity body, with hints of raisin, cherries, and banana in addition to caramel and toast. Alcohol is evident in the finish. Sharp and to-the-point, medium bodied. Decent, although monotonous. Thanks humulus.

A hazy deep red beer with a disappearing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of toffee and caramel, as well as hints of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with notes of spices, caramel, alcohol, and fruit as well as hints of the alcohol. The mouthfeel is dry.

Note: moved rating from wrong beer: I'd say below average for Belgian dark ale. The flavour has the typical lightly raisiny fruitiness and dark malt, but the malt doesn't develop very well and the palate is far too yeasty for my tastes.

High carbonation, but no head at all - dark ruby, good clarity - slighty yeasty aroma - flavor is very subtle, too subtle even - some plums and other dark fruits, vinous qualities - watery finish - soft and dry, slight tartness - pretty boring.
