Draught at Hop Devil, NYC
Dark color, big head. Good and powerful Stout, essentially roasted malt, but also enough caramel, good body, smooth enough. Powerful final, where some hop reveals itself behind the roasted malt.

On tap @ the Publick house. Enjoyed this with JoeMcPhee. Poured completely black with a small brown head. Aroma is present - roasty coffee. Roasty bitter taste, originally served too cold, had to wait for it to warm. Its aright but this whole stout completely dominated by coffee is starting to get old.

Tap at the brewpub - shazam - a great foreign stout - perfectly black with a thick dark brown lace - nice cocoa, anise, wine-like bitterness - light toffee sweetness to balance - not so much roasty as it is burnt in flavor, but not in a bad way, more like a well-done roasted marshmallow with bittersweet chocolate wrapped around it.

Draught pint at the brewpub on 4/28/06
Light tan head is small, with moderate retention and little to no lacing. Body is near opaque black, though deep tan when held to light on the edges.
Requires waiting until it has warmed, but after doing so, strong roasted barley and sweet cream fight each other (balancing well), while chewy dates and sticky toffee add substance and light sweetness, though that is quickly brushed off by black coffee/espresso on the end. Rather straightforward, light vanilla and dry molasses residue play about, while some chocolate sweetness continues to keep things balanced. Aroma is medium in strength.
Roasty, straight-up American stout-like flavors show the typical roasted barley, dry chocolate and espresso. Butter toffee really asserts itself with continued warming (not diacetyl, but just a fairly rich toffee flavor). Hops are leafy, minimally juicy, dry and very green. Dry, gritty at times texture, with moderate carbonation and no alcohol apparency.
