First brewed back in 2004, Curieux was our initial foray into barrel aging. To make Curieux, we take our Tripel and let it age in bourbon barrels for six-to-eight weeks. Once that time is up, we take the beer out of our cold cellars and blend it back with a portion of fresh Tripel. The resulting rich, golden ale features smooth notes of coconut, vanilla, and a hint of bourbon.

Corked bottle from jan ’07. Orange blonde color, foamy head. Flowery hops, attacked by whisky, grapes and a bit of oak. Citric flavor, oaky, grapes, notes of sweet bourbon. Some alcohol, but the beer is very soft and matured on the tongue and very well balanced. Fruity aftertaste. Delicious! 2009 bottle, tasted @ UDRM, Oirschot. Soft oak aroma. Vanilla, flral hops, malt and warming alcohol in the flavor. Absoluetely dry. vanilla and butter in the aftertaste.

0.355l bottle thanks to Cristobal37. Murky golden body with a white head. Aroma of honey, oak, orange and lime zest. Taste of orange zest, honey, oak, wood and spicy hops. It has a nice residual sweetness that makes it well rounded. Great beer!

Bottle from the brewery, bottled on 03/07/18. Pours a hazy light-golden colour with a frothy white head, good retention and patchy lace. Citrus aromas going on the apple-side after a while, blended with the alcohol and Belgian yeast. Hints of grassiness and dark fruits from the bourbon oak barrels. The bourbon does show more in the taste, but not too rich to make it hard to drink. Well-balanced with the rest of the strong Tripel, giving it some raisins and brown sugar notes. A light warming mouthfeel, but goes down very smoothly. Quite nice all-around.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Bottled on 3/15/17 and tasted on 9/24/17. Hazy honey gold color. Large rocky white head. Earthy, woody, coniferous nose. Bittersweet herbal flavor upfront. Notes of honey, cedar, lime, candied citrus peel, anise seed and Tahitian vanilla bean. Finish turns semi dry with spicy, boozy notes. Complex, yet smooth with subtle hints of bourbon.

Draught @ Meisterstück, Münich. Aroma has sweet bourbon tones, vanilla and mild alcohol. Flavour has strong bourbon tones, vanilla, chocolate(!) and non-disturbing alcohol. Also some fruits. Tripel is very well hidden here, I can only taste some tripel-like maltiness in the finish. Intensive stuff.
