Horehound, molasses, and kibble aroma, not terribly pleasant, but not infected. Brown to black color, no head. There is more molasses flavor than I have ever tasted in a beer. Syrupy mouthfeel and cloying initially, but finishes with a nice bit of espresso and leafy bark. Some cola notes, if not Dr. Pepper, present at midpalate. Interesting, to say the least, but too much on the sweet side for me. Point for originality and not rated a drainpour. Probably needs some age.

12 oz bottle purchased at Gomers South in Kansas City, Missouri. Served straight from the Wine fridge (approximately 55 degrees) to my Boulevard tulips glass. Pour is a mostly clear black and burgundy with a dense, well formed three inch dark khaki head. Head falls with nice lacing. Aroma is pretty big dried fruit (prune / raisin) and soy. As the nose opens up, the soy dissipates and presents much more as black licorice and anise seed. Very rich nose, nice integrations of aromas, the sweetness of the dried fruit is underneath the licorice and highlights in nicely. Taste is much more sweet, brown sugar caramel up front, turning to soy in the middle, and sliding into the licorice at the end right before a formidable blast of heat. Upon the first sip, this led to a very warm sensation in the chest. The flavors are pretty harsh, and perhaps time will mellow them. At the moment, this is too much sweet soy for my personal tastes. Palate is medium bodied, slick and oily and a low carbonation level. Very much drinks like a spirit.

Bottle from ericandersnavy. Pours a pretty opaque brown/black with a fizzy dark tan head that ran away. Aroma is treacle with a note of anise. Medium+ body with sharpish carbonation. There is rather obvious heat. Flavor is thick - treacle, burnt malt and anise. Suffers by comparison to Black Damnation, but it’s a good drink.

Entered to celebrate my 4500th Rating. Bottle @ Papsø. Thanks. Pours dark brown - nearly black with a small creamy bubbly head on top. Nose is very vinous and complex. Caramel, oak, roast and fruit. Flavor is liquorice and chewy malts with a bit of alcohol in the back. Full bodied. Oily and vinous. Delicious!

Tasting at Papsø
The color is almost black. The aroma is not very strong, there is some roasted malt and bread, raisins, alcohol. Quite strong body; sweet caramel and chocolate flavor, a bit salty, with too much alcohol. Unbalanced.

Bottle 35,5 Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a dark brown with a tint of red. No real head. Aroma of hard roasted malt and dark dried fruits. Solid body, hard roasted malts and salty licorice. Not overly bitter finish but quite some alcohol. Lovely. 230410

bottle pours thin black to dark brown, medium tan head. Aroma is sweet molasses and boozy chocolate covered cherries. Flavor is sweet, wow. Rich caramel and chocolate fudge. Some coffee lingers in the finish which is big, roasty, and mildly balances the sweetness upfront.

bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours dark brown with a lingering tan head. It smells of roast malt, licorice, and alcohol. The taste is of big roast malt with chocolate and licorice notes. The alcohol isn’t strong in the flavor, but there is a certain sharpness to the overall taste that makes me think it’s young. This beer is excellent, but I suspect will be even better with age as that sharpness will fade.
