Bottled. Hazy reddish amber colour with a mediumsized off-white creamy head. Aroma is caramel, some toasted notes, mild wood and some ripe fruits. Flavour is caramel, some toasted malts, mild toffee, raisins and a mild mellow bitterness to it.

Cloudy deep brown colour, small but stable frothy light tan head, thin yeasty layer remains, fair lacing. Sweet malty aroma, roasted, brown sugar, chocolate, caramel, cinnamon. Taste heavy to medium sweet, light bitter, roasted. Medium body, oily texture, bit sharp mouthfeel, soft carbonation, aftertaste medium bittersweet, spicy touch. All in all a nice dubbel.

Resurrection of an old-fashioned dubbel that had been ’extinct’ for a long time. Light beige, creamy but thin head, deep brownish burgundy colour, very dark but still transparent and clear. Sweet and malty aroma, chocolate, port wine, pear, cinnamon, walnuts, grass, black pepper. Sweet candied fruits in the mouth, pretty sharp carbo for this style, caramelly, nutty and chocolatey malts, light spicy hints, pleasant and well-balanced with a gentle herbal and lightly peppery hop bitterishness in the finish. Stereotypical but tasty and well made.

33 cl. bottle @ home. BBF 12/2014 (bit unclear). According to the bottle: “Brewery “De Lelie” was located in Vosselaar on the Cingel next to the church. The company was founded in 1907 and taken over in 1922 by the brewer Jan Dresselaers. Latter his son Rene succeeded his father. They brewed quality beers of high fermentation of which “Pater” and “Paus” were the best known. In 1952 the production was stopped.” It appears that a local VZW (same name as the previous brewery) decided to restart the production of these beers and they are being contract brewed now by Scheldebrouwerij. Pours a lightly hazy brownish amber with little beige head. Smell is sweet, toffee, caramel, quite a bit of licorice, very overripe dark fruits and a strong unpleasant low quality meat and quite a bit of soy sauce. Taste is an overwhelming bad meat, soy sauce, overripe dark fruits, malt, spices,… Okay carb. & body. This is frankly unpleasant and I cannot really get over it & frankly the worst I have had within the style. Which is a real shame considering that the Paus was quite delightful – maybe it is a hierarchical thing.

Bottle: Cloudy,"dirty"amber coloured, small foamy layer, toasted malt, fruits, caramel and some nuts in the nose; sweet-sourish flavour, medium bodied, quite soft; increasing tartness/bitterness in the slightly vinous and caramelly finish . Not the worst Dubbel…
