It pours a dark black and yields the same color body. Barely any lacing is left. The head is small and mocha colored. The smell has a combination between the chocolate and the coffee and is very powerful, and helps to hid the alcohol very well. The taste takes these flavorings and makes them insanely smooth. The palate is medium to heavy with an initial sharpness that settles once the beer warms a bit. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

Bottle shared at JF’s (IP trade thanks to Kurt) 23/12/12. Pitch black with a dirty coffee head that clears to a thin edgeing. Nose is dark fruits, molasses, dark chocolate, a little booze. Taste comprises dark malts, dark fruits, liqourice, chocolate, molasses. Full bodied with fine carbonation leading to a roasty finish. Alcohol is well hidden in this one!

From a 355ml bottle on 28 September 2012. Pours close to black with a small tan head. Has a reasonably strong chocolate and caramel aroma, with some raisins and a touch of smokiness. The flavour is very sweet, with chocolate milk dominating, along with some dark fruit notes and a quite muted roasty bitterness. Don’t get any coffee. This is actually supremely easy drinking for a big beer, with the 8% very well hidden. The texture is slick and the carbonation standard for the style. This is a very enjoyable dessert beer, though not overly complex or notable for an imperial.

Bottle from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon Oostakker,Gent, Belgium, consumed Friday 29th June 2012 at Lyn & Barry’s Pours black as yer’at with beige head. Touch ordinary, not as sweet or with the fullness of flavour in the mouth as I would have expected. Usual impy stout flavours, this is roasty and with some coffee but it is a all a little muted. Aroma us dry with lots of cocoa, some dark chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavour is dry with dark chocolate, some cocoa and coffee. Palate is slightly too high on CO2. A bit too sweet, but good still.

A black beer with a medium and beige head. Aroma is strongly salt liquirice, roastiness and coffee, powerfull and black aroma. Taste is roasted, nice sweetness, some chocolate, quite simple but balanced taste. Full bodied, not sticky and nice to drink. Balanced and "easy" IS without faults, just the enjoyable beer.

Pours black as the night with a small, fading head.Nose shows roasted malt, oats, soft coffee, earthy chocolate, vanilla and faint liquorice.Similar flavours; roasted malt, oats, soft coffee. The roasted malt is not too harsh or intense. Quite drinkable really.Carbonation could be a bit higher.

Bottle, 14C. Black with a rapidly fading tan head. Aroma of treacle, mocha and licorice. Quite dry after initial dark caramel sweetness. Medium roasted flavours, coffee, hints of dried fruit and smoke. Finish is dry and a bit salty. Quite complex and well-balanced but didn’t really grab me.
