Bottle 27,5 cl. Courtesy of maneliquour. Pours a clear dark brown with an orange hue and a small beige head. Phenollic aroma with subtle roast. Medium body only, dark, dry roast and a bitter finish. Very British meaning I need some bette hops and a more distinct malt profile. 030612

Sampled from a 9.3 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a very large creamy dark tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was chocolate, malted milk and vanilla. The flavor was very bitter roasty malts, cocoa, malted milk, vanilla and faint notes of licorice and wood. The finish was long and bitter with lingering cocoa, malted milk and roasty malts. Thick and creamy body. Initially I really liked it but my enjoyment diminished with the more that I had.

Nice and muddy dark brown, albeit without much head. the aroma is deep, fruitiy with an almost cedary spiciness. The body is fairly full, though that only makes it moderate by modern impy standards. The flavours are rich and roasty with an underlying fruitiness. Dry, woody, hoppy finish with a healthy amount of roast and some alcohol late.

9.3 oz bottle. Brewed May 2011; almost a year old. Pours opaque black with a giant beige head that hangs around for a nice long time; leaves some lace. Aroma is chocolate, licorice, hops, grain. Taste starts out sweet, then turns bittersweet and sour. Has a somewhat bready flavor. Full-bodied and average carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle. Piney hops, coffee, chocolate and spice aroma. Rather unique aroma for the style. Cloudy dark brown with a large tan head, and some chunky light colored sediment. Coffee, ashy roasted malt, earth, alcohol, a little fruit and spicy hops. Thereโ€™s one of those crazy aroma memory things going on that I canโ€™t place... drives me nuts when that happens.

Bottle from Beer Revolution, Oakland. It pours very dark brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, espresso, leather, toffee and liquorice. The taste is caramel, toffee, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, toast, charcoal, meat, wood, some fruit, liquorice and alcohol warmth, with a long dry-roasted finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Good balance. The best thing Wells & Young have done in a long time.
