Bottle 0,33ltr: Amber looking ale with a caramel, fruity taste and very bittersweet ending.

One of the last bottles they had at Kulminator (this review is from July 7, 2020): Leen had to look for a while in order to find it, and they don't even have it on their huge list, I specifically asked for it. BB is October 1, 2011, so this is probably form 2008, 12 years -but maybe older. A very reddish pour with some brown shades and a tan head that disappears quickly but leaves a ring that lasts till the end. Aroma shows the evolution this ale has undergone for more than a decade: it's obviously past its prime. Nonetheless, there are no evident faults and it's nicely drinkable: vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, marzipan. Very sweety scents. As the nose forecasted, mouth starts fairly sweet. Then a slightly acidic yet well structured midpalate, leading to a long finish just slightly bitter, that bears notes of strawberry jam and bread. Still nice.

Tap @ Café Morshuis Albergen. The tap wasn’t chilled by accident, so I got a warm sample for free. Overwhelming malt character with toffee fudge and hints of fresh cheese. Not bad, but will taste again when at the right temp.

Botella 33 cl en la antigua Internacional Oviedo. Lote 16:27A hasta 28..03..2003. (r209). Sabores dulces ligeramente tostados. Algo más de cuerpo y buena sensación alcohólica. Buena.

Ambar de buena espuma. Aroma acaramelado, azucarado. En boca resulta excesiva y poco equilibrada. Exceso de tono alcohólico, bien evidente. Y exceso de gas. Decepcionante.

The follow-up to Union’s original Cuvée de l’Ermitage, a bitterish, then-renowned ale that has been included in the Grimbergen range years ago and doesn’t exist anymore in its original form. This version is a tad darker and sweeter than the original, caramel malts, bit woody, dried fruits, relatively long, hoppy finish. Still better than most other Grimbergens.

Trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig süß, überreife Früchte, hefig, würzig. Geschmack malzig fruchtig, reife Früchte, leicht alkoholisch, würzig.

Boring Belgian blond beer. Grimbergen’s Tripel and Gold are better than this.
