The jewel in our crown was celebrated, many years in advance, by the prescient Jem Casey, Poet of the Pick and Bard of Booterstown, when he remarked that when “…no rashers grease your pan / A pint of plain is yer only man.” We agree and we’re not alone. Our Plain Porter – porter is a lighter version of stout – is a double gold medal winner. Its subtly aromatic, a silky, round mouthful with a touch of bitterness kicking in at the finish.

Trevlig.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium to big brown head. Some lacing. Aroma of coffee, licorice, bread, toast, nuts, earth, toffee, flowery hops and dried fruit. Taste is dry to light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of bitter chocolate, bread, light metal, light ash and toast. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really thick bodied for the ABV. Quite standard Irish Dry Stout in total. Pretty enjoyable.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Balanced dry stout, chocolate, hint of red berries and with a lot bigger body than the mainstream choice from Dublin.

Appearance: Pitch black color with a fine beige head that leaves a nice lacing.
Aroma: Mild chocolate, roasted malt and coffee.
Palate: Medium body. Tad sweet and a mild bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. Dry texture.
Taste: Rich roasted malt, coffee and mild chocolate.
Overall impression: Lovely tasty porter ehh no stout. Porter on the label listed as stout. This do not help my understanding of what is porter and what is stout. But who cares. Lovely ale. Easy as it seems. Especially at 4,3%.
Personal stats: Bottle from Systembolaget in Strömstad, Sweden.
