The jewel in our crown was celebrated, many years in advance, by the prescient Jem Casey, Poet of the Pick and Bard of Booterstown, when he remarked that when “…no rashers grease your pan / A pint of plain is yer only man.” We agree and we’re not alone. Our Plain Porter – porter is a lighter version of stout – is a double gold medal winner. Its subtly aromatic, a silky, round mouthful with a touch of bitterness kicking in at the finish.

Rated from backlog. Draught at Porterhouse Temple Bar. Pours a very dark brown with beautiful tan head and lacing. Aromas of caramel, cardboard, and biscuits. Clean, light flavors of roasted malt, dried biscuits, and hops. Plain but nice.

Jet black with a tan head. Aroma is light toasted malt. Flavour is a light toasted malt, creamy vanilla on a medium sweet smoke finish. As Flan said "A pint of plain is yer only man"

Keg @ Porterhouse Central, Dublin [140813]
Dark caramel brown, dense creamy white nitro-head
Aroma - Roasted malts, soft chocolate
Taste - Roasted malts, dark chcocolate, touch of spice hop, easy, mellow, not complex
Palate - Soft carb, medium body. Finish as main flavour, quite dry, roasted malt, dab of chocolate, bitter coffee roast linger
Overall - Easy drinking porter, rather simple flavours - it’s a much better replacement for Guinness

Thx. to Sebletitje for this one. 33 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2013. Finally another dry stout from Ireland, if this stuff is any good – there will be finally a rebuttal to people who keep insisting that Guinness is at the very least the best in its style. I assume any beer can claim to a bogus beer style and profess to excel in it regardless of the quality of the beverage. Pours a brown, light black. Smells sweet with candy, caramel, dark sugar, pie, toffee and fresh coffee. Tastes of sweet caramel, toffee, liquorice, herbs, pie, dark sugar and fresh coffee. Body is a tad lighter. Bit surprise, very lovely & easy going beer. A fine dry stout at least.

Tap at Porterhouse, Covent Garden - 13/12/12. Light black with reddish hues when held to the light, good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, touch of chocolate, mineral notes. Taste follows, good roast malt flavour going down, roast barley, touch of coffee, leather, tobacco. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, roasty finish. Ok stuff.
