With a great, gleaming moustache, knee-deep in a woodland mash tun, Jack D’Or the barleycorn conjures himself into beer. Helped along by the other “Pretty Things”, the mischievous hops and yeast – a magnificent fester will no doubt ensue! One of the most joyful transformations in nature, better than any rabbit from a hat, beer is the result.

Jack D'Or is a saison americaine: a belgian farmhouse ale with American hops. Dry, bitter, and contrary, this is a beer for all seasons. Available year round, for fun times and happy days. Cheers!

Bottled. Hazy pale golden, brief head. Fruity nose with spicy hops. Dryish with doughy malt forming a mid sized body. Plenty of fresh green hops, long spicy bitterness. Tasty and nicely drinkable for a 6.5% beer.

tap at Lord Hobo in Cambridge - This brew smells of yeast, citrus, a bit of hops, and some barnyard funk. There’s good moderate hops bitterness in the flavor with sweet pale malt and lingering bitterness in the lightly dry finish. Very good.

A hazed amber ale with a thick frothy lacing creamy light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, light oxidized character, OK. In mouth, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, light vanilla and light honey, pleasant for a 10 year old beer. Bottled Nov 2009.

Pours fairly pale with some underlying deep gold. White head leaves quickly, with a somewhat full collar remaining and dusting across the top. Great well rounded spice dominates the nose. Beautiful aroma with some slight bready sweetness. Spice and orange peel on the palate. Complex yeast flavor of biscuit. Chewy from the great yeast, covering all corners of the mouth.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a thin white head and a rich, opaque raw honey like glow. Aroma of hay, grass, coriander seed, curacao, yeast and a touch of flowers. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive yeast, coriander seed, lemons, aniseed, grass and a very dry sprucey like quality with a lot of pungent flavours. Aftertaste is quite strong with a little sweetness, but mainly a grassy and very herbal finish showing a ton of flavours, all very complex. Overall, a nice saison - one that definitely doesn’t hide any flavours or tastes and constantly impresses with a wide array of tastes. A great beer and one that should definitely be sampled if you like belgies, saisons, biere de gardes or just good flavourful beers in general. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled in Upstate New York on 09-August-2011.

Well balanced, average score on all criteria. Decent beer, but nothing special.
