Full bodied beer with sweet wheat flavor and beautiful dense foam top. It has a pleasant bitterness and unique spicy aroma with Orange Peel, Coriander, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, and Vanilla Beans. Complex yet soothing.

Smallish offwhite head over hazy opaque brownish red body. Strange cardamom peppery sweetish malt aroma. Taste is sweetish peppery malts with softly metallic bitter aftertaste. Very strange, very interesting, and quite good. (0.33l bottle.)

Thanks for sharing this one at the tasting, decaturstevo! Vintage 2004. Murky brown tan head that dissapates quickly. Rich malty barleywine aroma, dried fruits, dark caramel, sweet vanilla. Flavor follows the aroma. Nice.

Fully hazy red-amber beer; yellowish head, reduced to rim in seconds. Milky, lactic, and very fruity, sourish nose, ending spicey & vinous. All the former from the nose, but superimposed by a wry tannine-like bitterness, both hoppy & woody. The spices are present, but do not impose themselves, keeping unrecognisable. BIt acidburn, not too much, but the whole appears rather thin fluid full of suspension, rather than well-bodied. Remarkable beer, all the same. The spices made me very shy, but way better than feared.

2006 bottle. Used a Chimay goblet. It pours with just a litte bit of head. The color is a very very dark orange or a light ruby. Cloudy, murky, one could see some sediment and a little bit of a swirling vortex in the center. Nothing dominant in the aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, no sense of alcohol and goes down easy. This bottle is different than the 2004, which I remember was a lot more citrus-like. Plus the label does not look as joyful. Well worth a try for the fans of the celebration ale but stock up on the 2004 bottles (i know I have).

Hey, a very nice spiced ale, and just about the first I’ve had from Kiuchi that wasn’t immediately weird and somewhat off-putting. The spicy aroma is both complex and restrained. The orange peel and coriander were immediately and obviously apparent in the nose. The cinnamon and nutmeg less so, and combine in a weird way to make me think of thyme. I get no vanilla in the nose. A bit of a rummy pineapple character perhaps, or spiced rum. Outstanding palate, smooth and with a nice soft carbonation, with a breaddough yeast character typical of their beers. Juicy. On the sweet side, but not under-hopped. No spices stand out in the flavor, but meld to create a uniquely flavored ale. Really one of the nicest and drinkable spiced ales I’ve had.

BW tasting at Dumdum’s, Late March 2005. Deep amber ale with a big bubbled head, light fluffed egg-whites. Nice yeasty aroma with notes of cumin and nutmeg, german hops. Sweet malt in mouth, with astringent hops and loads of grapefruits. Rich bodied with smooth scotch alcohol. Went well with the Kenogami cheese.

Cloudy dark amber color with frothy, off-white head with flecks of brown, giving it a cappuccino kind of look - musty, tart aroma, with vinous notes, brown sugar, cinnimon, corriander, nutmeg, grapefruit - moderate sweetness, balanced with big time red wine notes - orange peels and other citrus play both sides of the sweet and tart - finishes with slight cocoa and bitterness - very complex, but very gentle - nice.

2004 edition. Paid $3.99 for a 12-oz single. Love the bottle cap... cool looking cartoony owl. Wonder if I can pry it off without damaging it. Not bad... a little bit of a dent. Anyway HUGE head atop this cloudy brown beer. Looks unbelievable. Aroma is malty, kinda rootbeerish. Taste is strange, quite unlike any beers I’m able to recall. It’s similar to a barleywine, but is dry and ... what’s the word? No idea. Taste is slightly fruity, a bit spicy. Neat, but not exactly great. Definitely interesting, and I’m glad I tried it.

I was fortunate enough to try straight from an oak cask. The body is a dark amber brownish color with absolutely no head. The first smell that hits your nose is strong vanilla beans then comes freshly brewed coffee, cherries and oranges. The mouth is syrupy rich with vanilla, chocolate and oranges. The finish dances with vanilla and chocolate, shit this stuff is goooooooooodddddddd!!!!

Bottled, thanks hopsrus! Nut brown with lively rich head. Vinous nose full of hoppy grapefruit and nutmeg. Sweet, full bodied and clean. Warming and tea-like with notes of orange. Some salty, spicy bitterness.
