Location: Sampled at Where the Wild Beers Are, 6/7/14, as Reinaert Flemish Wild

Aroma: Nose is yeast/spice, some funky notes, and fruit
Appearance: It pours an orange color with a medium off-white/beige head
Flavor: Sweet and yeasty flavor, some funk, and some spice as well
Palate: The body is medium, with a decent mouthfeel and some funky feeling finish
Overall Impression: Solid, but not amazing example of the style. Just good enough to not be completely forgettable, but not all that memorable either.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, labeled as Reinaert Wild Ale. Aroma is bretty, cheesy, dusty, cotton candy, bready, piss--really funky. Pours hazy cantaloupe with a large white head with excellent retention; leaves some sheeting lace. Taste is extremely yeasty, wheat cracker, lemon rind, piss. Ends on a lightly hoppy bitter note. This is crazy weird shit. Highly carbonated. This literally smells and tastes like piss. WTF? At first it just smelled like a nice bretty wild ale, then this piss character presented itself. I’m not talking about a nice catboxy American hop character, but like a dirty men’s urinal piss smell. I thought it would go away, but it just got stronger. Seriously, what the fucking hell? Second thoughts, 10 minutes later: the piss character plateaued and then dropped finally. It’s still there, but it’s not as off-putting. These are the most fluctuating scores I’ve ever given to a beer, I think. I had it in the upper 3’s, then dropped it all the way down to 2.2, then I raised it up to 2.9. Sit, Ubu, sit! Good fox.

Straw colour, slightly hazy pale yellow, white head. Sweet aroma, glue, ethyl acetate? Funk and cherries. Sweet flavour, bit chemical, some funk. Sweet funky finish.
Was looking forward to this one. It’s interesting, but a bit off. Bit of a disappointment.

Bottle from Charleston Beer Exchange. It pours clear golden with a small white head. The nose is earthy, brett, hay, light spice, toast, orange peel and a touch of sweetness. The taste is earthy, hay, brett, alcohol, bitter-sweet aspect, pithy orange, overly-sweet tangerine and candy with a dry, warming finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Too hot and sweet for my liking. Disappointing....

#2300. 75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBESG 2013. Thx! to Borresteijn. Surly bird label so 2005 vintage? Glad to try this, I have been interested in it for a while because sour & Belgian which is meant only for export (USA) but has been getting very good marks. Hazy golden with a creamy white head. Nose is murky, rotting lactic, sour in a bad way, spoiled yoghurt, lemon, farmland,… Taste is sour lemon, spoiled yoghurt, wet hay, lemon, musty, spoiled, caramel, sugar,… Creamy & lactic body. Slightly nasty mess of a beer, no idea why the American’s are into this sour to be honest. It is certainly interesting but it is also not particularily entertaining.

Bottle @ RBESG grand tasting. A bit unclear yellow color, small white head. Smell and taste a bit sweetish almost with a touch of herbs and spices, a slight sourish musty touch. Hmm average I would say.
