Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout (Smokestack Series - formerly known as Imperial Stout)
Over-the-top but surprisingly approachable, this twist on the classic style starts with several types of malted barley, rye, oats and wheat. Robust flavors of vanilla, espresso, whiskey, chocolate and roasted grain are balanced by hints of date and plum, with just enough hops to round it all out. Roughly one-third of the final blend is freshly brewed beer; the rest is aged for up to a year (or more!) in both first and second use whiskey casks.

Hefig-malziger Beginn mit im Mittelteil aufkommenden Schokoladennoten. Dann deutlich bitterer, weiche Getreidigkeit, vollmundig, dann noch schokoladiger, voll, kurz brennend. SΓΌffig. 12/13/13/14/12/13

Bottle 14512, Batch 2
Almost black beer, slight tan head. Aroma of malts, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, American oak, slight red wine notes. Rather sweet malty, wood, vanilla, candied dark fruits. The slight sourness in the background balances it well. Full body, quite thick. Wood and burned malts in the finish. Very, very nice.
(From 75cL bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen. Thanx for sharing, tderoeck!)

750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 - 2011 2nd batch / brett infected version β bottle nr. 14512 β thx to tderoeck β black with a mocha head β smells like sweet roasted malts, creamed sludgy dark fruits & plenty of berries β taste is bitter upfront, roasted malts, dark fruits & dark spices, toffee, coffee, touch molasses, slight vanilla, slightly sour & alcoholic in the finish, creamy & smooth, best liked beer probably at the RBWG 2012 β nice although I did have other favourites but I do tend to have oddball preferences

Sampled @ RBBWG Antwerpen. Courtesy of tderoeck. Pitch black, opaque color, average sized brown head. Smells incredibly rich: malts, alcohol, coffee, caramel, roasted malts, burned malts. Taste malts, hops, roastyness, coffee, caramel, bitter. Complex, rich and full taste. Amazing! Absolutely a great beer!

No head, nearly black beer. Vanilla, fresh oak, whisky or Bourbon, with rather mild, but present roastiness. Sweet-vanilla, sweet-alcoholic, sweet-dark fruit (on alcohol), and yet - not too sweet, let alone cloying. Some toffee, lots of fusels. End has something of the peatiness of an Islay malt. Rich, alcoholhead, slick to viscous as only this type of beer can be. Crazily good. Wow, Steven, ecco un capolavoro! Als Belgische brouwers in het buitenland dit kunnen verwezenlijken, waarom dan niet thuis?

14/I/2012 - 750 ml bottle @ RBBWG 2012 - batch nΒ° 2, bottle NΒ° 14512 BB: I/2013 (2012-42) Thanks to Jeremy for getting me the bottle!
Dark brown to black beer, small beige to brown head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit of bretta, sour, red berries, bit dry, dark chocolate, pepper. MF: good carbon, full body, creamy texture. Taste: bit sour in the start, caramel, bourbon, vanilla notes, peppery, quite some alcohol. Aftertaste: bitter touch, cocoa powder, sour notes as well. Despite or because of the bretta, I don't know, but it's an amazing beer!

Bottle @ home. Infected version. Batch 2. Deep brown appearance with a big, light brown head. Tangy cherry, tart, sour, roasty malts aroma. Tangy, sour cherry, roasty, dark chocolate malty flavor. Really a sour fruity, dark roasty flavor. I definitely need to taste the normal version. Iβm probably over rating this version but I bet itβll be great when itβs uninfected.

Sampled from the 750ml bottle #7557, 2011 vintage. Poured a dark black color with a dark tan head. Aroma was bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. Roasted notes. Alcohol appeared to be pretty subdued for it being 11%.

750mL bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma of whiskey, roasted malt, wood, and light molasses. Flavour of intense roasted malt, strong whiskey characteristics, with the barrel flavours dominating, though not overburdening. Exceptionally well made if a bit harsh,

Received in the Black Booty Bif from jtrockchalk, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid black with a huge bubbly tan head that sticks around forever and leaves rings of lace on the way down. Smells of roasted coffee, chocolate and hops up front, molasses, oak, vanilla hidden in the back. Taste is a bit hot, roasty and chocolaty with a hop bite. Finishes with a lingering roasty hoppy bitterness with a touch of alcohol. Carbonation is medium to high, mouthfeel is slick and oily, body is medium to thick. Nice Imperial stout. I love the chocolate and roast, but the alcohol is still a bit to present on this one.
