A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Bottle. Hazy, golden body. Large, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of lacquer, toasted grain, flowers, barnyard with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Dry finish. Any taste that is here is overrun by lacquer and barnyard.

750 ml bottle. Hazy light orange color with nose of some light citrus notes and yeast. Flavor is mild tart fruit and farmhouse tones. Body is light with fizzy carbonation. Over all I think this bottle was labeled wrong because the chili and chocolate is nowhere to be found. Brewer must have screwed the label up. The beer in front of me is good however. Thanks to Adam Jackson on the share.

750ml Bottle (Thanks Victor) - Hazy amber in colour. Vinous fruits, malt and a hint of cocoa in the aroma. Fruity, rich and tangy taste with dried fruit, spicy malt and cocoa. Like a saison/wine hybrid.

750ml bottle pulled from the depths of Dallas’ cellar
Appearance: Clear golden with a small white head and spotty lacing
Aroma: Honey, paper, citrus and light peppers
Taste: Tart fruit, honey, apples and citrus
Good. Easy drinking, seems to have lost something over the years

Bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orange with a thin head that dissipates completely and quickly. Aroma has a bit of light chocolate with sweet grains and a touch of spice. Flavor is lighter with light flora, light fruits and a bit of tartness with a finish that has a touch of chocolate.

Hazy yellow pour with a medium fluffy white head that evaporates slowly. Small patches of lace on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, yeast and spice. Medium body with flavors of bready malt, cocoa and spicy yeast. The finish is zesty citrus and yeast with a touch of chocolate lingering. Decent overall.

Bottle. Musty yeast, chocolate, and vegetal aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with small head. Bitter vegetal, musty light malt, and mild chocolate flavor. Might have worked with just chocolate but whatever pepper they used didn’t really work - no heat and just a vegetal flavor.

Bottle. Musty funky Belgian yeast aroma with a light vegetal note. Golden with a large white head. Funky, musty, bitter green pepper, cocoa flavors that taste like they were pulled out of a compost pile. A big clash fest, IMO.
