Julebryg-style dark rye ale

Don’t worry, we’re pronouncing it wrong, too. Rugbrød, the classic Danish dark rye bread, inspired our 2018 brew of the same name, which in turn sparked this 2022 rebrew. Brewed with three types of rye malt, this robust brown ale showcases the earthy, spicy character of the grain, balancing perfectly with bready, nutty, slightly roasty notes from barley malts.

Bottle Thanks to Sam. Pours out a rusty copper topped with a tan head. Aroma is of spice, some nut, rye, and a little chocolate sweetness. Taste much more of the aroma but more spice some clove along with the sweetness.

Brown sugar and rye nose. Shimmering brown, thick yellow frothy head. Lots of rye, with a little brown sugar. Alcohol is fairly evident. Not my cup of tea, or mug of beer, as it were.

Hazy brownish-red with a beige head. Head is big, but thin and full of carbonation. Aroma is full of rye and malt. Mouthfeel is very carbonated and sweet malt with the rye. Rye is pronounced on the front palate and follows through with caramel and bread-like flavors. An interest roasted/smoke on the finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a reddish amber with floating impurities and an off-white head. Nutty aroma, some burned caramel. Overly carbonated, comes gushing for a long, long time. Medium body, lots of hard roasted malt - kinda Brown aleish. Dryish, hoppy finish. Simply way too carbonated. 080210
