Julebryg-style dark rye ale
Don’t worry, we’re pronouncing it wrong, too. Rugbrød, the classic Danish dark rye bread, inspired our 2018 brew of the same name, which in turn sparked this 2022 rebrew. Brewed with three types of rye malt, this robust brown ale showcases the earthy, spicy character of the grain, balancing perfectly with bready, nutty, slightly roasty notes from barley malts.

750 ml bottle. Hazy reddish body with a medium sized beige head. A bit light aroma of chocolate, malt, light roast and a hint of acidity. Flavor is sweetish, light burnt, caramel, fruit and hint of acid. Body feels a bit thin and unbalanced. Drinkable but somehow a bit disappointing.

Bottle at Camp Beer IX. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is caramel and vanilla malt. Smokey malt with caramel and rich rye flavor and slight metallic finish. Very good and easy to drink.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a soapy, but still decently medium brown head. Aroma of rye, malt, pepper and a touch of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Pungent malt, rye, alcohol and nutty flavour with some light sweetness and a hint of earthy and almost coffee like flavours. Aftertaste is strong with a lot of pungency and deep robust flavours showing through. Overall, a decent beer, but a great beer if you like ryes! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from High Times Wine Cellar in Costa Mesa, California!

(From notes) Tap, sample @ The Bruery, end of 2009. Dark color. Aroma: Roast (almost acidic), lightly sweet. Flavor is toasted, lightly sweet. Finishes with lots of roasted malt. Reminds me of toast rather than rye bread.

Bottle 750ml @ yngwie
Pours cloudy brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, rye, funk and dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long fruity, chocolate finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

9/11/12/12/11/12

At first seemed nice, with a pleasing caramel cocoa nose, brown color, foaming head. Rye bread hints in the nose too. The initial sip was a nice sweetish caramel with a touch of roast, but the finish became leafy and herbal with bitter tobacco, weird astringent spicing, heavy leafy bitterness, earthy like dirt and lingering unpleasant phenols. Ugh, couldn’t finish more than 12oz out of the 750 bottle and even that was a chore.
