Julebryg-style dark rye ale
Don’t worry, we’re pronouncing it wrong, too. Rugbrød, the classic Danish dark rye bread, inspired our 2018 brew of the same name, which in turn sparked this 2022 rebrew. Brewed with three types of rye malt, this robust brown ale showcases the earthy, spicy character of the grain, balancing perfectly with bready, nutty, slightly roasty notes from barley malts.

75 cl. bottle @ Delirium Hoppy Loft \ shared \ a birthday present from Michiel – thx a lot \ The Bruery is one of the many American breweries that I have been dying to try in order to see whether they really are as mind-blowing good as the American beer geeks are claiming that they are & I must say that I was anything but disappointed by this one & if this one of their less impressive offering, wow \ Pours a slightly dark brown, slightly rye-like colour with a very small tanned head \ Smell is delicious sweet malt, plenty of pumpernickel bread & delicious blueberries \ Taste is malt heavy, amazing dark, black & pumpernickel bread flavours, spicey ryes, lots of yummy rye which especially comes forward in the aftertaste, hint of yeast, touch of caramelised sugar & delicious berries (slightly less blueberry here than in the smell but slightly more red berries) \ Oily, smooth body, quite a bit of carbonation but combined with the rye body & fine bubbles that works just great \ A beer for those who adore the taste of all kinds of bread

Bottle. Creamy off-white excellent fully lasting head. Dark amber colour. Moderate malty and powerfull kenone (Glue!)aroma. Modearte bitter flavor. Medicine and solent notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.

75cl bottle from Kaisla, Helsinki, as my 1200th rating. Poured murky brown with a decent beige head. Aroma has lots of chocolate malt, bready notes as well as some roastedness. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, rye and chocolate. Very smooth, slightly oily palate. Lovely beer.

Bottle from Skjold Burne. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are, roast rye malt, caramel, nuts and hops.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma. Fruity malty ryeish spicy yeasty flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty caramel and rye finish with spicy hints in the aftertaste.

Heavily malty, sweet aroma hits nose immediately during pouring process. Like a doppelbock. Palate is rather sticky and thick. Flavour is sweetish with lot of malt, but some hints of solvent do also occur on some sips. Heavy and good stuff anyway.

Bottle from Bierkompass. Hazy brown color with medium beige head. Aroma of, rye, caramel, blackberries, honey. Taste, dark fruit, caramel, rye, some spices. Coffee with rum in finish. Good.

Dark brown color; overcarbonated and with a huge head. Christmas pudding aroma (mix of raisins, rum, nuts), light vanilla, light fruitiness (apples); strange but nice. Caramel flavor, semi-dry mouthfeel, dusty too, this can be due to the extra bottle fermentation, some liquorice in the end. I can feel the Danish yeast; is that possible? Ok beer, not great.

Bottle @ private tasting, Denver. Thanks Adnielsen. Pours dark ebony with a creamy tan head. Aroma is lightly sour with rye, caramel, grassy and bready notes. Taste is roasted ryebread, malty, caramel, light hoppy finish, again abit of sourness. Full body, soft carbonation, slighty bitter finish. Very good 070411

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky dark brown color with an enormous foamy orange-tan head that left some lacing. The aroma was bitter rye, pepper, bread, orange and anise. The flavor was dryish and toasty with notes of caramel. orange, pepper, clove and a rich bready element throughout. The finish was long, spicy and bready. Medium body. Interesting.
