Draft. A hazy golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of lemons, peaches, hops, and a bit of malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of peaches, lemons, and other fruits as well as notes of straw, hops, and malt, leading to a bitter finish.

25 cl. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas: curious about this one De Ranke is a great brewery as far as I can tell and XX Bitter is not only one of the most bitter Belgian beers out there but also one of the best, I came in expecting the hopped up version to be absolutely monstrous, strangely enough it turned out to be far more mellow, fruity, balanced to the point of being almost level, this is interesting, light-years away from what I expected \ Hazy, bright golden with an almost green hue and a firm white head \ Smell is dominated by sweet Belgian yeast, lot of fruitiness including the large chunk which comes from the plentiful Belgian hops, definite banana note \ Taste is slightly bitter, sweet yeast with plenty of slightly baked banana, sweet spices almost going into cinnamon territory, touch of sweet bready malt \ Body is light & sparkling \ Overall a very different beast from the regular XX Bitter and interesting sweet but hoppy Belgian beer, nice stuff

Good off-white head over hazed metallic-orange beer. Malty nose, slightly toasted, then very aromatic smells: flowers, fruit, faint spices, dough an citruspeel - yet preciously little hops. The taste however, is outspoken bitter hopflavoured, noble, if totally un-American hops, yielding wild herbs, and again citrus(peel). Complex flavour, as from artichoke liqueur. Warming up, pure raw hopoils. Very spritzy, lively carbonated, medium bodied and very slick. A bitter, healthy hoppunch - strangely absent in the nose.

draft @ Moeder Lambic, Fontainas.
