Cantillon LH12 is an oude lambic that spent 5 years in cognac barrels prior to bottling. Unlike 50 Degrees North - 4 Degrees East, no additional priming sugar was added at bottling for refermentation and carbonation. As a result, LH12 pours completely still.

Pours clear dark orange, still. Aromas of sweet green grapes, lots of cognac, orange, apples, raisins, stale funk. Taste is super heavy cognacy, lots of overripe green apple, grapes, light grainy, tannic and stale funk in the back.

Bottle. Unclear golden color with white head. It smells extremely intense cognac barrel, super complex. Taste is the same, very cognac, super intense, but well-aged, extreme complexity and so intense, without beying cloying or anything. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Superb!

Rating #4000. 750mL bottle at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, pours a clear golden, like cognac, with barely any head -- only a few bubbles. Aroma of heavy cognac upfront, with notes of wood and oak in the back. Flavour brings out heavy notes of cognac without being boozy, loads of wood and some oak notes. Way richer than the 50N-4E, which is just cognac around the edges, whereas this one is fully cognac indeed with a very warming effect. Excellent stuff.

epic sharing @ cantillon ! damn thats a nice one to get to try ! pours blonde, no foam ( dah.. ) sweeter in the taste, dry, even some malts, very dry fginish. very much of the cognac taste ( surprise,,) also in the smell. this was drank on jan 7th 2013, was bottled in 2010 , was put into casks on 2005, so the lamùbik in here is even older than 8 years... damn... this beer is so.. fine.. its not overwhelming its just extremely balanced, you can drink 2 glasses of it, no problem, but you CAN enjoy it slowly, like a fine cognac... this is so complex , yet so drinkable. amazing !

75 cl. bottle split Womencantsail, t0rin0, ChinoSkillzian and one other non-RB gentleman. Bottle is a cheap simple black on what label like most of the Zwanze ones. Pours a clear, very interesting looking copper liquid - in small pours, it sort of looks like whiskey, perhaps an orange shade as well. Only two or so brief bubbles - it is still. Nose is strong holistic herbs, light bitter roots, light funk, touch cough medicine and barnyard, spices, light oak. Taste is equally strongly herbal - it is a bit like Old Hanssens lambic only good, rather resembles that in that herbal quality - touch spice, light cognac, funk is quite mellow on this one, touch cough syrup, barnyard, some light vanilla and oak popping up in the back when warmed, not very sour acidic, maybe a bit more herbal bitter - lightly oily, lovely flat. A pretty rare one - it is good but still one of the weaker Cantillon’s I have had - I must admit it is pretty interesting and certainly very different from their other beers I have had so far, close to non-Cantillon-esque.

75 cL bottle at Moeder Lambic. Pours clear and golden orange with a small, bubbly and white head. Aroma is smooth cognac. Smooth fruity, light cognac and clean and simple acidic touch. Smooth wineous, elegantly clean and smooth acidic. Velvet soft and mild wineous fruity. Lingering smooth and elegant, yet also somewhat simple.

A huge thank you to afrantzell for sharing this one with me and Cameron at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, under Jean’s helpful eye. Flat deep gold color. Aroma of apricot, peach, lemon, dust. Very full bodied, lots of oak, dry finish. A very solid old lambik.

Colour of cognac, but with a little white rim. And, yes, a little note of cognac in the nose, besides a lot of Bruxellensis, and grapes. The nose strengthens after opening, instead of diminishing in intensity. Extremely vinous, as I’ve selden tasted in a beer. I think of vin jaune or even fortified demi-secs with a little dash of lemon. Alcoholwarming - in a lambic!! Alcoholslickness, and then totally dry upon swallowing. An utterly interesting experiment. Just a total shame that the brewer threatens not to divulge this kind of beer any longer, seen the appearance of such bottles on e-bay and the like, for prices that he feels substitute embarresment for...
