This ninth edition of our Stone Vertical Epic Ale series takes two interesting left turns. A Belgian-style golden triple is the starting point of this beer, but the first left turn is nearly immediate with the addition of dried chamomile flowers, triticale, and Belgian amber candi sugar. The second, and rather unusual left turn takes us half an hour up the road from Stone to Temecula courtesy of the addition of just-pressed Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from our friends at South Coast Winery. As the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series has moved through the calendar, we found that the brewing schedule for a 10.10.10 release coincided nicely with the grape harvest, neatly providing an interesting twist in this epic ale.

Draught from Half Pint. Pours red, nice fruits, sugars and hops. One of the better ones in the vertical epic series.

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with brief, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of peaches, orange peel, grapes, honey, flowers (yarrow, chamomille), coriander, white bread and spices (clove). Fruity, spicy taste with peaches, orange peel, honey, clove, yeast, flowers, chamomille, grapes, white wine, coriander and a vinous finish with a gentle spicy bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and quite interesting, with lots of flavours and a slight acidity. Very nice.

Intense fruity thick rich nose. The beer starts sweetish and rich. Sourish hints, not too deep. Sessionable and a bit alcoholic. Fresh smooth, slightly sourish. The aftertaste is round and refreshing, dry honey, not too deep in body. The winey hints are there, but not too intense, the grain is in the foreground.

22 oz bottle pour split at Brouwers. Pours a light golden apple juice color with very little head. Sharp fruit, booze and spice aroma. Flavor is dry. Applesauce like with a little spice and sweetness. A bit of a high carb burn to it, though it’s not boozy at all. Suprised at the level of carb. Overall flavorful and different. Glad I tried this.
