This ninth edition of our Stone Vertical Epic Ale series takes two interesting left turns. A Belgian-style golden triple is the starting point of this beer, but the first left turn is nearly immediate with the addition of dried chamomile flowers, triticale, and Belgian amber candi sugar. The second, and rather unusual left turn takes us half an hour up the road from Stone to Temecula courtesy of the addition of just-pressed Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from our friends at South Coast Winery. As the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series has moved through the calendar, we found that the brewing schedule for a 10.10.10 release coincided nicely with the grape harvest, neatly providing an interesting twist in this epic ale.

Slightly hazy medium orange body, thin discontinuous off-white head. Sweet, estery nose with pear, white grape, and hints of pineapple, in addition to clove and flower petals. Sweet, sugary body, with notes of pear juice, clove, flower petals, and distinctive tart grapeskin. Borderline cloying; enjoyable in small amounts.

Bottle. This is actually a quite good belgian triple, although all the spices makes it way less drinkable.

Bottle. Dark golden with a medium white head. Aroma and taste of spices, fruit, soap. A bit difficult to define, odd beer, but still rather ok. Little on the sour side.

65 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Golden colour with small, white head. Smells of belgian yeast (funk), barnyard, floral hops and other esters. Flavour is sweet with a light bitterness. Quite fresh. Light to medium bodied with sweet finish. Good but not excellent.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a cloudy orange with a quickly diminishing small frothy white head. The aroma is yeast and pepper. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet fruity malt and yeast with a nice crisp finish. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol very well. Really enjoyed this one, an impressive Belgian Strong Ale.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Sweet fruits and yeast in the nose with a whiff of tartness. Medium-bodied, sweet fruit, fairly spicy with a distinct tart and yeasty edge. A very strange and inharmonious beer. 141210

Bottled. A golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of fruits as well as medium notes of hops and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops lending it notes of grass and peaches combined with a note of alcohol and a light touch of orange peal, leading to a dry finish. Thanks joergen for sharing.
