Maiden is our Anniversary celebration, a blend of fresh barley wine with the same beer aged in a multitude of barrels over time. This year a standout Armagnac barrel provided a rich base which could then be augmented with the complexity of tannins, perceived acidity and depth from elsewhere. The result is a heart-warming treat, with a luxurious aroma inviting you in to caramel and burnt sugar sweetness that remains supremely drinkable. This is one of the most rounded, balanced vintages of recent years and we think you’re going to love it.

02-08-20 // bottle shared at Biererei. Damn. Rumtopf, raisin, bourbon nose. Thick rich sweet malty body. But also dark dired fruits and a bourbon aroma. Great.

Dark brown pour with a beige head. Notes of bourbon, wood, mouldy barrel, dried fruit, sherry, subtle toffee, marzipan. A very nice barrel-forward but decently balanced barleywine.

28th March 2020 Semi, reddish tinge on this deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Fairly light palate, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Smooth fruity bourbon. Good rich ripe fruits. Some Cognac fruits. Mild red wine. Modest spice and a trace of wet wood. Semi smooth finish. Bourbon appears to be the dominant theme.

Bottle at home #Life, mail order from the brewery, 18/03/20. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent light beige head. Nose is nutty, bourbon soaked oak, dates, figs, muscovado sugars, toffee, dried fruits. Taste comprises liquid fruit cake, dates, sticky toffee pudding, brown sugars, dried fruits, treacle toffee, figgy jam, bourbon soaked oak. Full bodied, fine massaging carbonation, semi drying closed with a kiss of bourbonics and a balanced rising boost. Solid as always but still quite young … to be revisited a the other end of the year … if the world is still in business !

On tap at the Tap Yard. Pours a dark mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of brandy, brown sugar, dark fruit, toasted malts and a little vinous wood. Flavors of woody liqueur, sugary caramel, raisins and big soft malts. Just a bit of heat. May be a little softer this year, but certainly very good and ready to drink.
