Fresh 2014 bomber, drunk 2/17/14
Hazy, bright, sunny orange body is topped by a small white head that recedes quickly to cover.
Citrus rind and alcohol vapors make up the bulk of the somewhat muted aroma with softer fruit esters emerging as it warms and breathes (peach, lemon, mango). Alcohol vapors dissipate but a sharpness remains. Despite some furious swirling and sticking my nose deep in the glass, I can’t really get much more out of this.
Zesty herbal hops combine graciously with the banana clove esters while a fair amount of honey-like maltiness provides softness and balance. Very supple texture and indeed bottle conditioned carbonation make it very drinkable. No alcohol in the flavor, no flaws and pretty well attenuated, including the maple, which leaves very little imprint other than a slight bitterness/sharpness (similar to most simple sugar fermentation). Always much more a fan of Southern Tier’s bottle conditioned, not-over-the-top line. Nothing fancy or innovative here, but it’s passable.

Location: Bomber from Sparrow, 2/14/14

Aroma: The nose is yeast and spice, lots of grass and hay, some funk, and a little fruit
Appearance: It pours a hazy golden color with a very large frothy off-white head and plus lace
Flavor: The flavor is lightly sweet, nicely funky, with a little bitterness, earthy/yeasty on the finish
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a tingly feel, plus carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This one is a pretty nice, fairly funky Saison. You don't really get much maple flavor here at all, but for me, it's a nice, on style, Saison.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy apricot color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left excellent lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet honey, maple, yeast, sugar, pepper and egg white. The flavor was very yeasty and bready with notes of pepper, sugar, maple, lemon and brett. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Pours deep hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Banana and earthy yeast aromas. Crisp with sweet banana upfront turning to a dry lingering yeast before the lasting earthy bitter finish.
