Admittedly, it’s a bit of a paradox to name our Amber Lager for history’s most famous agent of prohibition. But it’s a smooth, malty (and dare we say, arresting?) paradox.
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland’s most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Bottle. Reddish amber color. Milk chocolate, caramel and pear in the aroma and flavor. Grassy hops and some black berries. Sweetish with a somewhat sticky mouthfeel, but well balanced. Tobacco in the aftertaste.

Draft pour into shaker glass at German Biergarten, Philly Airport. Aroma is dominant bread with mild roasted malts, mild nuts and mild sugared candy. Appearance is dark brown (like dark iced tea), lots of sparkle and finger-width beige head with lots of soapy lacing. Taste is bread, light toffee, nuts and European hops. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, look and feel are great and, while there is some interesting complexity to the aroma/flavor, they aren't quite bold enough to be outstanding.

12 oz. bottle from Tops in Lewiston, NY. Pours a crystal clear copper color with a khaki head and very good retention. Fair lacing. Caramel malt aroma. Strong caramel malt flavor mixed with some bitter hops in the finish. Crisp mouthfeel. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Okay, but too bitter for an amber lager for me, giving it a slightly harsh finish. The 6.1% ABV is well hidden.

On tap at Jet Rock at PHL (after a connecting flight...I admit that all beers I have ever rated seem to get an extra +0.2 just for the fact that Jet Rock is the best non-tied-house craft beer bar in an airport). Also, the actual beer ratings by me are pretty lame. Clear amber with solid off-white head that is relatively sustained. Malt bomb all around. Rich, and nutty.
