Firefly is our lightest offering at Jackie O’s. We like to refer to it as our gateway ale. Introducing macro drinkers to this beer has proved to be effective in converting them into craft beer drinkers. Seasoned craft beer drinkers also admire the drinkability and soft but wide rage of flavors embedded within this Amber ale. A fusion of Maris Otter, Belgian Pilsen, and American 2-row provide an interesting and complex malty base for this refreshing ale. Lightly roasted malt gives Firefly a biscuit-like finish. Carefully selected hops provide an herbal and mildly citrus aroma and flavor.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, toast, biscuit, wheat, floral, grass, herbal, light honey, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop and malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, toast, biscuit, floral, grass, herbal, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange/lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice complexity and robustness of hop and malt flavors; with a nice hop/malt flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy, smooth, and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a nice session amber ale. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

12oz can. Slightly hazy orange-red body, some tiny floaties. Big frothy head. I’m not so keen on the aroma, but it is really not so bad, just your classic cherry tinged amber malt. A lot better to sip on that to sniff at. Nice medium body, very clean and drinkable, while displaying some interesting specialty malt tones. Balanced, easy going beer. OK.

Can, courtesy of JStax – thanks! Medium depth amber colored pour with a decent beige head. Lots of sticky lacing. Nose is rather mild; a little citrus and floral complimented by caramel malts. The flavor is somewhere in between an APA and Amber. Good citrus hops flavors, light florals, and caramel malt. Not a lot of malt support, but enough to soften the dominance of the hops.

12oz can pours a clear, caramel amber with some lacing, creamy, white head. Nose is fairly mild, some toast, a little grist, some cracker, a little lemon, some yeast, some bread crust. Flavor is fine too, malty, cracker, biscuit, orange, a little home made bread, touch of metal. Clean finish. Solid session amber.

Can thanks to Josh! Pours a clear amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges, Aroma has light grass and citrus with a grain backbone. Flavor has a grassiness up front with earthy grains and some must that comes out in the finish.

just a little darker than yer typical pale lager. from a can, smell of dull hops. Big strong hops bite up front, comes on like a milder ipa. yes, lingering piercing back of throat and sides of tongue thing here. almost terrible ripping bitter h0ps thing ipa. does have some co2 zip. tastes like much more than 4.5%. menacing finish.

Can. Pour is a clear orange with a very dense head. Almost looks like they used nitrogen on it. Aromas are fruit-driven (principally oranges) with a hint of Cascade cat pee to them. They are fairly light, though and hard to decipher. Flavor is fairly middle of the road with a bit of a Cascade bite to the finish. The beer is kind of sweet with a little big of a chewy mouthfeel. Decent.
