Bottle @ Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Dark red with a frothy off-white head. Has plenty of sweetness throughout with pale malts evident in its nose, but a slightly more roasted one in its taste. Called ’Oak’ instead of Gouverneur on the bottle.

30 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra Tiel. Clear reddish brown with an off-white head. Caramel and malt aroma with some spices and yeast, hint of roasted malts. Taste is sweet, without the dryness and bitterness of a stout. Not an unpleasant beer but why they called it a stout remains a mystery.

Tap @ Bruxelles, medium sample. Clear copper color, medium head. Aroma of spicy belgian yeast, some caramel and toffee. Soft sweet in taste, bit spicy. Like a belgian amber ale actually. Nothing to do with stout at all. Decent beer, but it totally misses all it is supposed to be, so -0.5 for that.

On tap at Bruxelles. I was warned. Clear amber-brown colour, beige head. Aroma is light buttery, cream, hint of roast, quite sweet, caramel. Flavour is sweet, fruity, light buttery, some roast, caramel, tiny bits of burnt notes, but mostly just sweet. Like a messed-up fruity porter, but worse. Don’t know what they were aiming for here.

--- Beer aliased from original tick of Gouverneur Stout on 15 May 2018 at 16:03 - Score: 5

33cl bottle from Den Gouwen Aar. Thick creamy white head. Clear amber pour. Not even close to being a stout. The colour is too light. There are no chocholate/cofee notes. It’s a nice enough beer but why call it a stout when it clearly isn’t?

Clear ruby brown colour, two finger frothy tan head, recedes slowly, good lacing. Aroma roasted sweet malts, dark fruits, some chocolate and liquorice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter, malty, light chocolate. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, finish is mild bittersweet, fruity notes, chocolate, hint of wood. Very nice semi-dry stout, tasty and good to drink.
