American Muscle – 666 Horsepower Double Pale Ale is massive hop bomb brewed for America by Americans in America. Aggressively late kettle and dry hopped with four quintessential varietals of American hops; this beer is built like houses used to be. A strong malt backbone balances a rich, pungent palate of citrus fruit with floral and earthy notes. No adjuncts or extracts of any type were used in this beer.

Draught @ City Hops. Hazy dark red-copper with small foamy beige head, sweet grape/molasses aroma, low carbonation, mildly bitter sweet resoinous molasses like taste with alcohol undertones and long, throat burning finish. Very weird brew, but ABV is well covered except for the initial throat burn.

Location: Draft at Au Cheval, 6/10/14

Aroma: The nose is sweet for the style, a little booze, and a fair amount of resin/citrus hops
Appearance: The pour of this beer is cloudy and amber in color with a beige head on it
Flavor: The taste is much the same, sweet and a little bitter, with mild booze, and decent hops
Palate: A medium-plus body, with an average carbonation, some light heat, and a decent dryness
Overall Impression: I expected the booze to make more of an impact on this one considering the ABV. Otherwise, this one works pretty well. A tasty beer for sure.

On tap at a pricy place in the viagra triangle, Lux Bar, served in a Local Option 10 or 12 oz glass. Paid about $12 for that, which is a lot but its pretty much 10 bucks everywhere in town. So, I paid a little more but at least I got a good beer at a place I would not expect to get some good beer. But that may be my biggest complaint about the beer, its very pricy. Its not some barrel aged, sour, ass puckering, imported, fancy oh la la. Its just a big hoppy beer, sure very big but still. But back to the point. Color is dark honey amber, cannot see through it but glows. Strong head as well. In short this is a good old school high octane hoppy beer. I actually do not get caramel notes from this, which I do not like in hoppy beer. There are some residual sugars, well a good deal, but it works for the beer. There are just enough sugars to offset some of the heat and a lot of bitter hops in the flavor. Along with the bitter hops, the other hoppy flavors lean toward fruit but not overly tropical. As I said, not caremel, not overly sweet or sticky, very hoppy, very big but sugars hiding some of the heat. I wont drink it again because of the price but I enjoyed my experience. Haven’t done a decent version of this kind of beer in a few years.

Draft. Cloudy amber color, tiny gray edge head. Aroma of subtle straw. Taste is peppery fruitcake and brown bread. Nice.

On tap at local option. Pours a clear gold with a slight amber hue with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount pine hop and resin with a strong sweet grain and alcohol backing. Flavor has a bit of flora but is mainly pine and resin with backing alcohol and sweet grains.
