A light chestnut in colour which puts it into the ‘brown beer’ category. As far as flavour goes, it tends rather more towards the malt than the hops, though there is a pleasing hop taste right at the finish. The aroma is light and pleasant.

Isle Of Wight Holiday Beet#75. Second beer of the local pub beer festival taking place. Advertised as a brown, but a little too hoppy for me for that. Excellent traditional brew though with very tasty towards that style gritty sugars and malts.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a slightly hazy golden brown with a small off-white head and good lacing. There’s floral hops in the aroma plus some hints of summer fruits. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy texture. Flavour is mainly malts and nuts but with some hoppy hints as well. A little bit of toffee comes through later on as well leading to a slightly bitter finish. This is decent enough – but definitely NOT a brown ale ! Somewhere between a bitter and a golden ale – maybe even a light mild ?

Half-pint, cask shared with Finn after breakfast at Wetherspoons Manchester. Steady pearl white head, dark amber body, laces well. Inviting smell of brown malts with a fruity cite. Malt-fruity flavours, caramel and dried fruits. Satisfying bittersweet ending. Quite nice. (Manchester 25.01.2020).
