How many breweries does it take to conceive of a modern-day interpretation on a nearly extinct, yet incredibly complex traditional British Strong Ale closely related to Barleywine and Old Ale? We once again teamed up with our friends at Cloudwater, Other Half, Monkish, and The Veil to brew Threads, a brightly acidic Stock Ale inspired by a rich history of English Brewing. Brewed back in March of 2017, Threads was aged in a variety of barrels including Bourbon, Apple Brandy, Rye, and Maple Bourbon.

After nearly 30 months in oak, we thoughtfully blended portions from each to present a final beer that is incredibly thought-provoking and complex. Nearly three years in the making, Threads, alongside three single-adjunct variants, is now ready to be enjoyed. In the glass, Threads presents a deep chestnut color with a fleeting beige head. The aroma is enticingly layered, offering dark fruit notes up front, with a rich sherry character playing a complementary role. Fig, raisin, dried apricot, and black cherry approach the palate in waves. A hint of sweetness paired with a full-bodied mouthfeel is tempered by a bright lactic finish rounding out each sip.

Bottle at home shared at tasting. Opaque black color, no head. Unfortunately it is clear upon opening and smelling the beer that this one was heavily infected. Very tart, sourish, hardly any other flavors that were supposed to be there originally are detectable. Distant chocolate, bourbon maybe. Had to drainpour this unfortunately.

Tap at FFB20, shared with the crew. A thick and rich, barley-wine like ale but on top of the usual boozy, malty, bourbon-like, woody and chocolate notes there's some tartish and fruity, slighlty red wine-like touch to it that's the cherry on top.

Taste comprises ripe dark fruits, chocolate dusting, booze, bourbon, brown sugar melt. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid well balanced BA big bois ... sips fine for 15%.

Pours deep brown into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Hot caramel, fig, raisin and date aromas. Thick with sweet molasses and tart fig upfront continuing into the hot caramel, date and prune finish. Warming, but very sweet - can't take much of this at once despite the quality.
