Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is fruity hops with pine resin, roasted malt, citrus, orange, tropical fruits, grapefruit, tangerine, some chocolate. Touch of weedy Mosaic. Flavour is fairly bitter with a moderate to medium sweetness. Body is medium. Nicely fruity, wouldn't say this has minimal roast character, but certainly hop-forward. Very nice.

Black IPA by this new generation craft brewer in Belfast, can from Bier Bazaar. Irregular and uneven-bubbled, cobweb-lacing, 'dirty' greyish beige, dissipating and eventually dissolving head, misty dark chocolate brown robe, close to black, but still with a mahogany hue under bright light. Dank aroma of stewed onions, stale armpit sweat, marmite, moldy grapefruit, burnt currants, black toast, porcini 'juice' or even mushroom 'bouillon', salmiak, Brazil nuts, fermenting shoyu, patchouli, wet leather. Dryish onset, some dried fig and burnt raisins, spritzy and very minerally carbonation, hint of sweetish blueberry but very feebly so, sourish undertone; smooth toasty malt bitterness, toasted nuts and burnt bread, but indeed refraining from becoming very old school stout-like roasty as announced, instead shifting to a dank, powerful hoppiness, though leathery, marmite- and salmiak-like aspects continue to work as well as some 'blood'-like iron. The bitterness is strong and rooty yet accessible without overly sharp edges, oniony and peppery with a piney side note and even something orangey retronasally. Something ethereal (clove, liquorice) lurks in the finish but I can't quite put my finger on it. Cascadian dark ale in the more 'classic', old-fashioned way, well-hopped and recommendable if you are into this genre (like myself), though perhaps tilted a bit too much to the umami side.

Clear dark brown beer, big creamy irregular beige head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of sweaty feet, pretty dank and hoppy, caramel notes, soft roast, some coffee, dark chocolate notes. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very hoppy, resinous, sweaty feet, smelly, cheesy, bit sourish, passion fruits. Aftertaste: tropical fruits, pineapple, hoppy, nice bitterness, resinous hops.

Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Hazy black, foamy, tan head. Aroma of prune, fig, orange peel, pink grapefruit, black tea, toast, tobacco, dark chocolate. Taste has sweetish prune, fig, citrus, zesty sour accent; bitter middle of toast, nuts & pine. Piney hoppy finish, bit toasty, bit herbal (liquorice) too, dark fruits & peels lingering, soft alcohol glow. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. good one, bit too zesty perhaps for my taste (in this style at least).

Can. Dark brown muddy pour. Aroma of peach, orange, chocolate, pineapple and mango. Taste has creamy orange, chocolate, caramel, peach, citrus, somewhat salty pineapple and mango. Creamy fruit is nice, the caramel flavor is a bit too sticky. Solid bipa, still want more of this style.
