Quite good, lightly cream-coloured head, very stable over cola-coloured beer. End of bottle serious yeast. Sourish nose, with an important acetic sting. Lactic acid also present, brown candi sugar, ironoxide (head tested, negative). Drier, less acidic taste. Seriously roasted malts even with some roast bitterness. Wood, woodstripper, aldehydes. Caramel without any surplus sweetness. Finish has again a light acidity, IMHO linked to the FeO. Feels chewy, well-carbonated and yet light finish. Grew on me. Nose is its weakest point, rest is... pleasing!

Now here's something interesting: an 'old ale' from the first Israelian craft brewery (in Tel Aviv), brewed with honey and dates, ingredients that were indeed also used in ancient Mesopotamia, often associated with the very origins of our beloved beverage. The label is largely in (modern) Hebrew which I cannot read, but apparently the brewery's name refers to an old Jewish saying roughly translated as if a camel can dance, then everything is possible - which seems an appropriate adage for a present-day craft brewery. Thick and dense, very creamy, stable, membrane-lacing, yellowish beige head on an initially clear, beautifully deep, pure and warm bronze-hued copper beer with visible sparkling, turning only lightly misty with sediment - a beauty to behold, in my book at least. Aroma of dry biscuit, old bread crust, dried out orange peel, bitter honey more than actual sweet honey, dried apple peel, vague coffee powder accent, persimmon, dried vervain, crushed and toasted hazelnuts, tofu and brown beans, chewing gum, dusty dry earth, tea and a very light touch of 'rusty' oxidation that I personally can appreciate in this type of beer. Fruity onset in a restrained, dryish kind of way, fried apple peel, dried banana and dried fig, indeed a touch of dates but not in the sweet, candied way we here in northern Europe are most familiar with, but in a dried, unsugared way; lively, spritzy, slightly minerally carbonation fit for the style, smooth and resinous body. Lovely 'pure' maltiness in the middle indeed like an English strong ale, smooth, biscuity and caramelly but in a dryish way with bittering toasty edges, indeed the bitterness of the malts is more prevailing than the sweetness; remains clean and streamlined till the very end, where a floral accent from the honey appears but subtly so - and blending with an English style, spicy, herbal, almost tea-ish hoppiness, adding mild but sufficient bitterness. Some warming alcohol all the way at the back but again in a very restrained, elegant and subtle manner. Hard caramel- and toasted nut-like maltiness lingers, much more than any date or honey effects. I didn't know what to expect from this one, but it turns out to be a lovely 'old school' English style strong ale (rather than actual 'old ale' even though the difference is very vague even historically speaking), clean, restrained, streamlined and malty without much ornamentation in spite of the exotic and decidedly non-English ale ingredients that have been used. Lovely in its 'English' nobility and restraint - and a perfect score for looks as I haven't encountered such a beautifully looking, 'molten copper'-like beer in a long time.

Bottle at a tasting. Sour acetic aroma, sharp oxidation, loads of caramel and some fruits. Taste better than aroma. Caramel malts play the key role along with sweetness, no hops and only some alcowarmth to off-set the sweetness. After all drinkable, considering the origin story.

Bottle. Pours deep amber with some light beige foam, quite a lot of it. Fruity, caramelly nose, some tartness. Taste has caramel, dried fruits and a hint of honey or at least beeswax. Quite sour - which I believe is not intentional but possibly infection. Sourness kind of ruins this beer for me, overall can imagine this to be not that bad when fresh and at its top though.

Tap at Dancing Camel tel Aviv. This just doesn't work for me, alcohol too much, malts not present enough, bit too lagery and bitter in the wrong ways.
