First brewed in 2008. We brew Wandle Ale using traditional methods and materials sourced locally from English producers. We use Maris Otter malt from Warminster Maltings, one of the few remaining floor maltings in the country. We use a combination of traditional Fuggles and Goldings hops varieties, together with the more modern Boadicea hedgerow variety to flavour our beers. All of the hops used in the brewing process are whole leaf which give Wandle its distinctive hoppy taste and aroma.

Bottle from a supermarket near Gt Portland St station, London. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of light fruit, hop and grass. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Light body, thin/waek texture, average carbonation. Label says 4.2% abv not 3.8% though seemed less. Disappointing.

Cask at the Free Press, Cambridge. Dark gold, fairly clear. Quite a bit of lacing. Aroma is sulphur, hickory smoke and butterscotch. It’s not off - the condition is in fact excellent - but it’s... odd somehow. Taste has a slight malty sweetness but the buttery astringency rears its head again for the finish. Not for me.

Clear medium amber colour, small frothy white head, recedes quickly, light lacing. Toasted malt aroma, grainy, caramel, citrus notes. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, light fruitiness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste mild bittersweet, spicy accents in the finish, decent bitter.
