Featuring a base brew of Space Cake dry hopped per Galactica specs, Galacticake combines Clown Shoes’ signature Double IPAs to make for a bevy of tropical citrus aromas and flavor. Clear, but deep and rich copper and bronze coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall off-white head that says afloat nicely. Aroma of grapefruit, metal, light earth, toffee and a rich, bready resinous hop scent, with alcohol noticeable as well. Full-bodied; Fairly rich malty and bready flavours show at first with a lot of syrupy and resinous notes that have a little pineapple and some grapefruit with a pungent hop bitterness from the alpha acids near the end. Aftertaste is very rich with a lot of syrupy and resinous notes with a subdued bready and floral finish that shows a great balance of malt and hops, with a very enjoyable sweetness from fruit and caramelised sugr that seems to hit all the right notes near the end. Overall, a very nice Imperial IPA that has great flavours and range, a good complexity near the end that isn't cloying, nor pungent and hides the alcohol nicely - this one tastes closer to 7,5 per cent! A great start to the twelve pack Christmas Sampler - a solid Imperial IPA in the right format! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased as part of the 12-pack Christmas Sampler, from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 12-November-2021 for US$19,99/twelve pack, with a 'best by' date of 31-January-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 06-December-2021.

16 ounce can. Clear, amber orange color. Large, dense beige head leaves nice lacing. Fragrant tropical fruit aroma. Flavor upfront has notes of dank citrus and warming alcohol. Sticky mouthfeel. Plenty of hop bite. Finishes dry with hints of pine and black pepper.

Bought in a four pack of one pint cans a month or so ago, I am ready to give one a try. 100 plus degree weather dictates a serving as cold as possible, half the can goes into a chilled Buffalo Bayou tulip glass. First impression is positive, a deep red-orange body topped with a heroic head of off-white foam. I take a whiff, pine, pineapple, cut grass. Finally a drink. There is a light resin, lemon, mango followed by a firm bitterness. All in all, not a big presence but it does fine tonight. Three more for later. 6/6/18
