American Porter Aged in Bourbon Barrels

This is the bourbon barrel aged version of Everett (1908- 1939), our grandfather’s brother, as well as the name of our American porter. In his honor, we aged this ale in select bourbon barrels for 20-plus months. The beer rested contentedly, absorbing and harmonizing with all that the oak had to offer, taking on the complex characters of the spirit and reflecting that which we remember best of our great uncle.

Tasty and very complex. Very balanced between the base beer and barrel. A treat only bugged by the light green chili in the nose.

Bottle courtesy of HackoBock. Pours viscous dark blackish brown with a fairly small dark mocha head that leaves some spotty trac e on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is malty with roasted malts, dark bread, caramel, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, moist soil, liquorice fudge, soot and hints of bourbon alcohol and green chili. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, tiny salty and malty. Mouthfeel is slightly viscous, round, tiny roasted astringent, very tiny boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with bready roasty malts, dark chocolate, bourbon and hints of plums in brandy. Tasty and very complex. Very balanced between the base beer and barrel. A treat only bugged by the light green chili in the nose.

500 ml bottle thanks to Chris. Pours a jet black color with a medium brown head. A big sweet boozy bourbon nose. A really sexy label. Big sweet vanilla and toffee bourbon, a really lovely creamy palate. Dark fruit, ash, caramel. Very smooth. Loads of dark fruit, ash, even a bit milky. Damn good. So well made.
